Pioneers Sweep Senior Day Tri-Match

The Alfred State volleyball team sent a quartet of Senior out in style as they swept both matches of a tri-match on Sunday. They defeated SUNY Delhi 25-19, 25-21, 25-20 and Cazenovia College 25- 12, 25-12, 25-6. The Pioneers end the regular season with a 9-11 overall record.

In the opener, the Pioneers used an early push in each of the three sets to take control. Madison Webster (Corning) led the way with 12 kills, 10 digs, and six service aces. Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 29 assists and had nine digs, Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) recorded 10 kills and eight digs, and the trio of Alyssa Martin (Portville), Isabella Slocum (Hornell), and Mya VanDuyne (Newark) all chipped in four kills.

The Pioneers collected 11 service aces, hit .159 in the game, and had four total team blocks.

After honoring Webster, Raichlin, VanDuyne, and Nicole Donnelly (Livonia) in senior day festivities, the blue & gold came out and took care of Cazenovia quickly. The Pioneers hit .301 in the contest and collected 13 service aces.

Webster finished with 12 kills, six aces, and six digs, Perkins had 10 kills and 13 digs, and Raichlin chipped in 25 assists, six digs, and three aces. VanDuyne contributed another four kills as well. All Pioneers got in the action and made contributions.

The Pioneers are back in action next weekend at the ACAA Championships at SUNY Delhi. The Pioneers are the #3 seed and will take on #2 Finlandia (MI) in the semifinals on Saturday at 6 p.m. In the other semi #1 Thomas Moore (KY) will battle #4 Delhi.
