Volleyball Season Comes to a Close

The Alfred State volleyball team's season came to an end following a 25-18, 25-18, 25-19 loss to Finlandia (MI) in the American Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) semifinals. The Pioneers close the season with a 9-12 overall record.

Alfred State led 12-10 in the 1st set before Finlandia went on a 6-0 run and never relinquished the lead. A 4-0 run in the 2nd set broke a 6-6 tie and the Lions held off every Pioneer comeback attempt. The Pioneers never led in the 3rd set but a 7-1 run in the middle of the set by the Finlandia pushed the lead out. The blue and gold did go on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two, 19-17, but could not get any closer.

Madison Webster (Corning) capped her career with 23 digs and eight kills. Sarah Raichlin (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) passed out 28 assists, Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) finished with eight kills and 11 digs, and the trio of Mya VanDuyne (Newark), Alyssa Martin (Portville), and Isabella Slocum (Hornell) all chipped in five kills.

Marina Dalton led the Lions with 11 kills while Nicole Anderson passed out 26 and was credited with 12 digs. Jessie Diaz led Finlandia with 21 digs.

On the match, Finlandia hit .184 while Alfred State hit .065.

Finlandia will take on Thomas More in tomorrow's ACAA Championship match.
