Webster Named a Nominee for NCAA Woman of the Year

Alfred State senior Madison Webster (Corning) has been selected as a nominee for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year award. For 29 years, this program has honored the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service and leadership of outstanding female college athletes.

Webster, the recipient of the Alfred State Pioneer Legacy Award, was a four year starter on the volleyball team. This year she moved from her libero position to an outside hitter role to benefit the team and was named 1st team All-ACAA after being named 2nd team after her junior season. She finished this season with 282 digs, 231 kills, and 54 service aces and ends her career at Alfred State as the all-time leader with 1,423 digs.

She is credited for being an outstanding representative of Alfred State and the athletic department on and off the court. Off the court she was very active with the Business Professionals Association and the Financial Planning Association. During her career she evolved into a great leader and set a great example of what it means to evolve as a student athlete. She finished her career with a 3.22 GPA in Financial Planning.

The NCAA Woman of the Year program celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes across all three NCAA divisions. In 2019, more than 200,000 women are playing college sports, and the NCAA received a program record of 585 nominations for this prestigious award.

Conference offices will select their conference nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year. Each conference nominee will be notified by the NCAA, and all conference-round nominees will be announced on ncaa.org in early August. Conference nominations are forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year Selection Committee, which identifies the top 10 honorees in each of the three NCAA divisions. From those 30 candidates, the selection committee then determines the three finalists in each division for a total of nine finalists.

The Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. The 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced Sunday, Oct. 20, at an awards dinner in Indianapolis.
