Pioneers Battle Hartwick and Elizabethtown

The Alfred State volleyball team wrapped up play at the Lycoming Invitational on Saturday. The team fell 3-1 to Hartwick and 3-0 to Elizabethown.

Versus Hartwick, the Pioneers took the opening set 25-21 but fell 23-25, 25-27, 23-25 in a tight match-up with the Hawks. Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) had a season high 16 kills and 17 digs to lead the blue & gold. Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) finished with 15 kills and 11 digs, Jordan McCooey (Horseheads) passed out 46 assists, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) led the team with 19 digs.

Elizabethtown improved to 8-1 on the year with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-10 victory over the Pioneers. Fox led the way again with seven kills and nine digs while Perkins had six kills and 11 digs. McCooey passed out 17 assists.

McCooey was named to the All-Tournament team for her play this weekend.

The Pioneers are back in Williamsport, PA next weekend for a tri-match at Penn College. They take on Penn College at 10 a.m. and Cairn at Noon.
