Perkins Leads Pioneer Comeback

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) had a big night as she led the Alfred State volleyball team to a 3-1 victory at Medaille on Tuesday evening. The Pioneers dropped the first set 11-25 but rallied to win the next three 25-16, 25-16, 26-24.

In the opening set, Medaille raced out to a 9-1 lead and never looked back. In the 2nd set, Alfred State scored four straight points to take a 8-4 lead. Perkins recorded three kills in another 4-0 run to make it 16-9 and the Pioneers never looked back. A pair of 4-0 runs gave the Pioneers the lead in set three but they took control of the set with a 7-0 in the late portion of the game.

In the final set, the Mavericks led 18-17 before Alfred State scored seven of the next eight points to take a 24-19 lead. Medaille didn't go away easily as they scored the next five points to tied the set at 24-24. A Mya VanDuyne (Newark) kill gave the Pioneers a one point advantage and an attack error by the Mavs closed out the blue & gold victory.

Perkins finished the day with 21 kills (.280 hitting percentage) and 18 digs. Alyssa Fox (Letchworth) finished with 10 kills and 16 digs, Jordan McCooey (Horseheads) passed out 40 assists, and Jordan Stauffeneker (Lansing) collected 12 digs. VanDuyne had a solid all aroudn game finishing with six kills, six service aces, and five digs.

Lindsay Howell had 11 kills, Sierra Wells passed out 22 assists, and Gina Appenheimer finished with 18 digs to lead the Mavericks.

The blue & gold have over a week off before heading back to Buffalo to take on Hilbert on October 16th.
