Pioneers Topple Warriors - Earn 10th Win

The Alfred State volleyball team improved to 10-1 on the season with a 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-15 victory over Lycoming on Friday evening. The Pioneers have now won six straight.

In the first set, the Pioneers trailed 10-9 but scored eight of the next nine points to take a 17-11 lead. The Warriors cut the lead to 21-19 but could not complete the comeback. Lycoming went on a 15 to 5 run in set to take control of the set en route to tying the match at 1-1. In set three, Alfred State scored seven of eight points early on in the match and was able to maintain the lead the rest of the way. In the final set, ASC scored the first three points and jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never looked back to seal the victory.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) led the blue & gold with 11 kills and 10 digs while Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) chipped in 10 kills, served five aces, and finished the day with a .533 hitting percentage. Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) finished with 37 assists, 10 digs, and six service aces, Emma Petrichick (Genesee Valley) led the team with 12 digs, and Faith McCombs (Amityville/Copiague) finished with nine kills.

Alfred State recorded 22 service aces and had 48 digs.

The Pioneers continue play at Lycoming (Williamsport, PA) on Saturday with a pair of matches. They take on Nazareth and Harrisburg Area CC starting at Noon.
