Pioneers Finish Conference Play Undefeated

The one seed Alfred State Pioneer Volleyball team won todays regular season finale 3-2 against Penn.- St. Altoona.

After dropping the first set, 25-17 Alfred State came back and won two straight sets 25-22 and 25-15. Altoona won the 4th set 25-20 pushing the match to five sets. The Pioneers squeaked out the victory, winning the last set 15-13.

The Pioneers had three players in double digit kills. Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) had 19, Karleigh Haines (Jamestown, NY) had 18 and Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie, NY) had 16. Haines and Gerstenberger both had double-doubles on the day. Haines tallied a team high 23 digs, and Gerstenberger was right behind her with 20 of her own. Nayomie Ferrer Santiago (San Juan, PR) tallied a season-high 50 assists on the day. To a Pioneer team that doesn't usually play five sets, the last game of the regular season showed the resilience on what has been a dominant season for Alfred State.

Alfred State has secured the one seed and will host the AMCC tournament semi-finals and finals next weekend on November 5 and 6. The Pioneers will face off against either Penn.- St. Altoona or Pitt.- Bradford in the semi-finals. They square off on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to see who will make the trip to Orvis Gymnasium.
