Strong Showing for Cross Country at FLCC

The Alfred State cross country team had a strong showing at the Bruce Bridgemen Invitational at Finger Lakes CC on Saturday afternoon. Both the men's and women's team earned 2nd place finishes.

The men's team scored a 47 and finished only behind NCAA DII LeMoyne who won the meet with a near perfect score of 18. Herkimer CCC was 3rd (108), Finger Lakes CC was 4th (117), Bryant & Stratton was 5th (122), and Lorain (OH) CC was 6th (123). A total of 58 runners competed in the race.

Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) and Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) led the charge for the men. Hanss was 5th overall in the 8k race in 28:54.87 while Rutledge was 6th (29:47.75). Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 10th (30:55.38), Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 11th (30:58.08), and Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley) was 15th (32:34.28). 

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the women's team with a 6th place finish on the 5k course. She crossed the finish line in 21:13.07. Olivia Leonti (Port Byron) was 9th (22:07.78), Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 19th (24:52.17), Katherine Frascella was 20th (25:08.78), and Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 27th (26:47.56).

The Lady Pioneers scored a 55. LeMoyne won with a score of 18 and Herkimer CCC was 3rd with 62. No other team had another finishers to score. A total of 38 runners competed.

The team travels to the Oswego Invitational next weekend.
