Starting line for the women's race

Pioneers Finish 14th at Houghton

The Alfred State men's and women's cross country team finished 14th at the Houghton Invitational. The race featured athletes from 17 different institutions.

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) led the women's team with a 51st place finish. She crossed the finish line of the 6k course in 25:30.7 (6:51 per mile). Olivia Leonti (Port Byron) was 92nd (27:15.6), Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) was 102nd (28:04.8), Cassidy McCourt (Buffalo/Emerson School) was 120th (30:13.1), and Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 121st (30:24.4).

The Lady Pioneers scored 419 in the competition that featured 147 finishers. RIT won the women's title with a score of 57.

Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) led the men's team with a 51st place finish on the 8k course. He averaged 5:26 per mile in finishing in 26:57.5. Shawn Rutledge (Watkins Glen) finished 55th (27:04.6), Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 96th (28:04.2), Austin Demberg (Westtown/Minisink Valley) was 127th (29:06.5), and Ryan Lohr (West Seneca) was 148th (30:09.1).

The Pioneers scored 362 points in the race. NYU took the men's title with a score of 43 in the competition that featured 187 finishers.

The blue & gold will be in action next weekend when they host their annual Alumni Race. The opening gun will go off at 10 a.m. - if you are an Alfred State alum and would like to run in the race please contact Coach Paternostro for more information.
