Bio

Nikkie Herman is the chief diversity officer and Title IX coordinator on campus. Her career at Alfred State spans nearly 20 years in various roles within Student Affairs. Previously, she served as coordinator of Equity, Inclusion, and Title IX.

Herman is proud to have a SUNY education, holding an associate degree in liberal arts and sciences: humanities from Alfred State, a bachelor’s in English secondary education from SUNY Fredonia, a master’s in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in women and gender studies from Empire State College, and an advanced graduate certificate in women and gender studies, also from Empire State.

In her role as chief diversity officer, she is able to assist the college in expanding diversity on campus by recruiting and retaining both professional and students from underrepresented backgrounds. She oversees programming and educational workshops around the areas of diversity and inclusion, the Veteran’s Resource Center, as well as the Center for Equity, Inclusion and Title IX. She is also in charge of Title IX investigations and compliance.

Herman has presented both locally and nationally on topics such as bystander intervention, LGBTQ+ topics, women’s empowerment, body image and leadership, sexual assault awareness and prevention, and women’s leadership. She is a 2017 graduate of the Western New York Women’s Leadership Institute, a certified Safe Zone trainer, and Green Dot Bystander Intervention Program trainer.

In addition to her leadership roles on campus, she also serves as the NASPA Region 2 Women in Student Affairs knowledge community representative, as well as sitting on the SUNY Title IX Coordinator’s Association (STIXCA) executive board, representing the colleges of technology. She annually leads Alfred State Women’s Empowerment retreat, and has recently co-founded “IN”, an LGBTQ+ employee resource group on campus and a Trans+ student support group.
