Bio

Paul Welker recently completed his 20th year as the Alfred State sports information director. He also serves the Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations.

Welker is in charge of gameday management, statistics, media relations, website maintenance of www.alfredstateathletics.com, and record keeping. He is also the co-advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, works closely with the sport management department, and oversees the athletic department field experience and intern students. He is also very active with Homecoming, Hall of Fame, and the Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular.

Welker holds an associate of science degree from Finger Lakes CC and a bachelor of arts in sports marketing from Mercyhurst College (Erie, PA).

Prior to joining the staff at Alfred State, Welker was the first SID at Mercyhurst North East. While there, Welker also served as the school’s assistant baseball coach and assistant women’s basketball coach.

Welker has been honored with the William S. Havens Award by the Athletics Department four times and has teamed up with the Marketing & Communications staff to win two bronze medals from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for Alfred State’s athletics brochures.

Welker is also the general manager of the Hornell Dodgers of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. A league in which he played in during collegiate playing career.

Welker lives in Hornell with his wife Kate, an Alfred State graduate, and his son Braden (12) and daughter Emma (9).
