Cross Country: Men & Women - 2nd at ACAA Championships

Both the men's and women's cross country teams finished 2nd at the ACAA Championships sponsored by the Association of D3 Independents hosted by SUNY Canton on Saturday.

The Lady Pioneers finished with 40 points just behind SUNY Delhi's 32 and ahead of SUNY Canton's 58. Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) was 2nd in the 6k course finishing in 24:48.40. Emily Brigman (Lancaster) was 4th (26:56.10,), Cassandra Ryan (Gloversville) was 10th (28:19.70), Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 11th (28:30.60), and Brianna Byrnes (Jordan Elbridge) was 13th (29:45.00).

In the men's race, Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) led the Pioneers with a 6th place finish on the 8k course. He crossed the finish line in 27:55.60). Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 9th (28:42.00), Kyle Glaub (West Seneca East) was 11th (29:22.20), Conrod Kroll (Minisink Valley) was 13th (29:58.60), and Joseph Kretschmar (Phoenix, AZ) was 15th (30:07.10).  The Pioneers scored 48 points behind Delhi's 15 while SUNY Canton scored 84. 

Football: 0-8

The offensive trio of Mike McGee, Josiah Israel, and Keelan Cole led Kentucky Wesleyan to a 52-7 victory over Alfred State in the home finale for the Pioneers. McGee passed for 277 yards and five scores, Israel rushed for 237 yards on 21 carries and twoscores, and Cole caught five passes for 141 yards and two scores.

The Pioneers scored their lone touchdown in the 4th when Khris Greggs (Rochester/Aquinas) caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from Eli Frantz (Hubert, NC).

Dashown Wilson (Bronx/Dewitt Clinton) led Alfred State with 53 yards rushing on 11 carries while Frantz rushed for 42 yards and Hezekiah Williamson (Albany) had 40 yards. Josh Ashley (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus) caught three passes for 60 yards.

John Lauretti (Seaford) led the Pioneer defense with nine tackles while Brandon Davis (Lansing) had eight. Michael Zimmerman (Canandaigua) and Steven Hubick (Fountain Hills, AZ) each chipped in seven tackles.

Men's Soccer: 5-11

The Alfred State men's soccer team scored twice in the final 1:47 of the contest to earn a 3-1 victory over Hilbert in the regular season finale for both teams. 

With the game tied at 1-1 with just under two minutes remaining, John Mormino (Alfred Almond) made a tough play to advance the ball and then found Tyler Landries (Genesee Valley). Landries was able to take the crossing pass and fired a shot to the far corner to give the Pioneers the lead. 1:12 later another nice pass, this time a long cross by Brian Markel (Arkport), led to a goal by Markus Ernest (Alfred Almond). Ernest was able to take the pass by the goalie and fired it into the empty net.

Justus Hoffman (Hamburg) started the scoring 17:02 into the game when he scored his first of the season after getting a pass from Ernest. Jacob Bartz (West Seneca) made four saves to earn the victory.

Women's Soccer: 8-7, ranked #11 in USCAA Poll

The women's soccer team shutout Elmira College 2-0 on Tuesday to wrap up the regular season. The Lady Pioneers head into the postseason with a 8-7 record.

Julia Yanarella (Roy Ketcham) got the Lady Pioneers on the board 14:56 into the game after getting a pass from Brooke Geibel (Arkport). Geibel added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute after getting a pass from Dannielle O'Buckley (Queens/Ansbach).

Elmira held a 17 to 16 shot advantage. Allison Danielak (Brockport) made 10 saves, eight in the 1st half, to record her 4th shutout of the season.

Swimming: Men 1-0, Women: 2-0

The swimming team had this week off and are training for a return to the pool on November 12th.

Volleyball: 23-4, ranked #3 in USCAA Poll

The Lady Pioneer wrapped up the regular season with a pair of home victories, 3-0 over Houghton and 3-1 over Cazenovia.

Bryanna Godfrey (Tioga) led the team with 21 kills and 13 digs while Janae Hamilton (Ellicottville) had 17 kills and four blocks. Madison Szpaicher (Ellicottville) passed out 54 assists, 15 digs, and 11 kills. Shaina Griffin (Portville) recorded 13 kills this week, Jessica Padley (Sweet Home) had 10, and Grace Hall (Ellicottville) had nine.

The Lady Pioneers hit .331 on the week and recorded an impressive 25 service aces led by Hall's six.

Wrestling: 

The Pioneer wrestling season begins this weekend as the team travels to the Brockport Open.
