Men's Basketball: 0-6

The Pioneers struggled shooting as they fell 69-54 to Nazareth and 65-52 to SUNY ESF. The team shot only 36.9% from the field and hit only four 3-pointers.

Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) led the team with 31 points while Tyler Elliott (Perry) finished the week with 20 points and a team high 14 boards. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) and Marcus Rhett (Middletown) both chipped in 15. 

Women's Basketball: 3-2

Joselyn Johnson (Geneva) hit a jumper with 11 seconds left in overtime to lift Alfred State to a 56-54 victory over Buffalo State in their only action of the week.

Breana Gleaton (Waldorf, MD) hit a shot with 10 seconds left in regulation to tie it and then the Lady Pioneers scored the first nine points of the OT period only to have Buffalo State rally to score 10 of the next 11 points to tie the game at 54-54. After a Pioneer timeout with 24 seconds left, Johnson hit the game winning jumper. The Bengals were not able to capitalize on a jumper and two foul shots in the final seconds.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) led the Lady Pioneers with 22 points and eight boards while Gleaton finished with 12 points and 11 boards. Minnie Robinson (Washington DC), Johnson, and Kimberly Levee (Dansville) all finished with six points. 

Swimming: Men 2-1, Women: 3-1 - Men 7th, Women 9th at Fredonia Invitational

The swimming team rewrote part of the NCAA DIII era record book as they competed this weekend at the three-day Fredonia Invitational. The men finished 7th overall while the women were 9th.

Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) registered the top finish of the weekend. She finished 6th in the 200 breast in 2:38.82.

Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) was 8th in the 200 IM (2:04.62) while Tim Olin (Perry) was 9th in both the 100 back (57.68) and 100 back (2:05.44). Bryce Cutler (Newton, NJ) was 10th in the 400 IM (4:32.17)

In the diving competition, Nick Beach (Canandaigua) was 6th in the 3 m (290.30) points and 7th in the 1 m (312.34) while Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) was 8th in the 3 m (276.15) and 10th in the 1 m (228.05).

In relay action for the men, the 800 free relay was 10th (7:47.62), the 200 medley relay was 12th (1:44.21), the 400 medley team was 13th (3:51.41), the 400 free team was 15th (3:29.57), and the 200 free relay was 15th (1:36.46).

For the women, the 200 free relay was 11th (1:49.39), the 200 medley relay was 12th (2:03.61), the 800 free relay was 12th (9:35.22), the 400 medley relay team was 12th (4:34.63), and the 400 free team was 15th (4:04.36).

Wrestling: 2-3, 10th at RIT Invitational

The wrestling team finished 10th at the 51 Annual RIT Invitational on Saturday. George Van Valen (Ithaca) was the top finisher placing 4th in the 184 lb. weight class.

Van Valen started the day with three straight wins, a pin of Logan Calkins (RIT), a tech fall 18-0 victory over Brody Keefe (Lycoming), and a 8-0 win over Kevin Kohma (John Carroll). In the semis he fall to eventual champion Jordan Bushey (Oswego) but rebounded with a pin of Lantze Lange (Oneonta) to make it to the 3rd place match. In the 3rd place he fell to Nicholas Greenquist (RIT).

Tristan Almeter (Elma/Iroquois) was 6th in the 165 lb. competition and Konnor Kremer (Horseheads) was 6th in the 174 lb. bracket.

  • Almeter pinned Andrew Gombas in 2:27 to start the day but fell to eventual champion Nolan Barger in the quarterfinals. He bounced back with a 18-3 win over John Donohue (RIT) and a pin of Roy Forys (Wesleyan) in 5:31. Almeter fell in the consolation semifinals and the 5th place match to finish 3-3 on the day.
  • Kremer defeated Bryce Reed (Oswego) 14-3 and pinned Joe Lupisell (RIT) to advance to the semifinals. He lost a 7-6 decision in the semis and lost two tough matches in extra time.

The Pioneers scored 53.5 points in the event in which Lycoming took home the team title.
