Men's Basketball: 7-10

The Pioneers won one of their three contests this week. They lost a heartbreaker 74-72 to Wells, defeated Pratt 87-60, and fell 80-60 to Berkeley College. 

Sayquan Chambers (Queens/Richmond Hills) led the Pioneers with 15.7 points per game and 8.3 rebounds. Marquis Edwards (Queens/In-Tech Academy) averaged 13 ppg while Tyrone Davis (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) averaged 10.3 points and eight assists.

The Pioneers shot 43.9% from the field for the week and held a 83 to 72 rebounding advantage.

Women's Basketball: 9-5

The Pioneers won two of their three contests this week. The team fell 87-57 to SUNY Poly but rebounded with a 69-50 victory over Pratt and a 62-61 win over Berkeley.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond) led the way this week with 65 points, 35 rebounds, and 22 blocks. Kimberley Levee (Dansville) connected on seven 3-pointers this week and averaged 11 points per game. April Acosta (Bronx/Evander Childs) grabbed 18 boards and hit the game-winning foul shot in the victory over Berkeley.

The blue & gold shot 37.1% from the field for the week and connected on 13 three-pointers. 10 of those three-pointers came in the victory over Pratt.

Swimming: Men 2-2, Women: 4-1

The swimming and diving team had a busy weekend as they competed in three different events. Both the men and women won the Pioneer Invitational on Friday, the women's team won a dual meet with Pitt Bradford on Saturday, and the divers fared well at the Ithaca Diving Invite on Sunday.

Alley Sell (Hanover, PA) won every event (8) she was entered in this weekend. At the Pioneer invitational she won the 100 breast (1:12.81) and the 500 free (5:52.43) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (2:06.02), and 800 free relay (9:42.86). Her performance in the 500 free is a new Alfred State NCAA Era record. At Pitt Bradford she won the 200 fly (2:33.71), the 200 breast (2:40.72), and the 400 IM (5:15.02). She was also part of the winning 200 medley relay (2:03.69).

Nick Beach (Canandaigua) won both and set new NCAA era records in the 1 m and 3 m diving competition at the Pioneer Invitational. He won the 1 m with a score of 415.43 and the 3 m with a score of 425.93. At Ithaca he place 2nd in both events. He scored 365.40 in the 1 m and 327.95 in the 3 m. Rebecca Stevens (Wellsville) won both the 1 m and 3 m competition as the Pioneer Invitational. Her score of 329.33 set a new school record in the NCAA Era in the 1 m while she scored 321.90 in the 3 m. She placed 6th in the 1 m (309.55) and 6th in the 3 m (281.35) at Ithaca. 

Ethan Dale (Lock Haven, PA) won five individual events over the weekend. He won the 200 fly (2:11.88) and 100 fly (58.33) in the Pioneer Invitational and won the 100 breast (1:04.67), the 200 breast (2:27.82), and the 400 IM (4:43.08) vs. Bradford. Elizabeth Drake (Lansing) won the 1000 free (12:52.57), the 100 free (1:03.39), and the 500 free (6:35.35) vs. Bradford.

Indoor Track & Field

The indoor track & field team continued their 2017 season on Friday by competing at the Highlander Invitational hosted at the Kerr-Pegula Fieldhouse at Houghton College.

Anders Prethus led the way with a 2nd place finish in the shot put with a toss of 13.79 m. In the pole vault, Zach Curran (Williamson) finished 4th with a leap of 4.42 m.

The women's distance medley relay team finished 2nd in 15:38.31 while the men's distance medley relay team was 6th (12:49.12).

Lindsey Thiel (Liverpool) was 17th in the 800 (2:46.64) and was 20th in the 1 mile (5:50.59) while Kelly Healy (Maple Hill) was 13th in the 600 (1:59.73).

Jacob Hanss (East Rochester) was 24th in the 800 (2:22.42) and 34th in the 1 mile (4:57.99) while Eric Hulbert (Mexico) was 22nd in the 800 (2:20.17). The men's 4x400 relay team finished 11th in 3:57.45.

Wrestling: 4-3, 7th at ECWC Championships

George Van Valen (Ithaca) finished 5th at the 2017 Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Championships on Saturday. The Pioneers finished 7th in the team competition.

Van Valen fell in a tight 5-4 contest to Nick Greenquist in his opening match. He rebounded by pinning Alex Mongillo and defeating Bryce Reed (Oswego) 17-0. In the consolation semis, he was tripped up 6-0 by Jake Ashcraft. Van Valen claimed 5th after a medical forfeit victory over Lantze Lange (Oneonta).

On Monday evening, the Pioneers downed Penn College 35-13. Dan Hosking (Tioga Center) earned a pin in 10 seconds, Van Valen pinned his opponent in 1:54, and Tristan Almeter (Iroquois) won 16-1 to highlight the victory.
