Baseball: 6-28
The Pioneers won their final two games of a six-game week. The team hit .276 on the week and collected 15 extra base hits.
Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) continued his hot hitting with a .476 (10 for 21) week. He had two doubles, a triple, a homer, and 4 RBI. David Zuber (Honeoye Falls Lima) hit .400 with 5 RBI and Thomas Shofi (Carmel) hit .364 with 5 RBI. Pedro Mora (Washington Heights/AP Randolph) led the team with 7 RBI.
On the mound, Garrett Mack (Avon) and Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) picked up the victories. Mack tossed 11 innings this week and had a 4.09 ERA while Cornell pitched 9.1 innings and had a 3.86 ERA. Rafael Perozo (Bronx/St. Raymond) made his debut on the mound this week and tossed 4.1 innings of two-hit shutout ball.
Lacrosse: 6-9
The lacrosse team won the USCAA Classic over the weekend with a 10-6 victory over SUNY Canton in the opening round and a 14-11 win over SUNY Delhi in the championship game.
Versus Canton, Alfred State jumped out to a 5-2 lead at the half and withstood the Kangaroos rally in the 3rd quarter. Joe Johnson (Churchville) finished the day with four goals and now has over 100 points for his career. AJ Soto (Churchville) finished with two goals and four assists while Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) had three goals and two assists. Tanner Morrow (Grand Island) was 11 for 16 in the faceoff circle and led the team with 10 ground balls. Ryan Amidon (Fayetteville Manlius) made eight saves in net for the victory.
The Pioneers outscored SUNY Delhi 7 to 4 in the 4th quarter of the championship game to claim the USCAA Classic title. Alvarado finished the day with four goals and two assists while Soto had two goals and three assists. Ian Grana (Greece Odyssey), Johnson, and Landon Drumm (Tully) all scored twice. Morrow was 14 of 21 on faceoffs and led the team with 10 ground balls while Amidon made 14 saves in net.
Softball: 3-21
The softball team played eight times this past week and hit .337 for the week. Stormi Kruger (Medina) led the team with a .556 (15 for 27) batting average while Melissa Barber (Nassau/Catholic Central) hit .536 (15 for 28). Jillian Kahn (Dansville) returned from injury and hit .444 (8 for 18) while Aubri Mosier (Rome, PA) hit .429 with a team high 9 RBI.
Jordan Leonard (Lancaster) earned a victory on the mound with a solid performance vs. D'Youville.
Outdoor Track & Field:
Anders Presthus (Ithaca/Lansing) and Zach Curran (Williamson) highlighted the Alfred State performance at the Cortland Classic on Saturday afternoon.
Presthus finished 2nd in the javelin (45.85 m), 4th in the shot put (13.75 m), and 8th in the discus (42.80 m). Curran recorded a leap of 4.47 m in the pole vault to earn 4th place.
Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 7th in the triple jump (12.48 m) and 12th in the long jump (6.06 m). Trevor Stiles (Hornell) was 8th in the javelin (35.38 m) while teammate Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 11th (33.80 m). Stiles was also 14th in the 400 hurdles (1:01.46).
On the women's side, Steffanie Preston (Groton) was 5th in the javelin (27.90) and Carrie Parker (Brooklyn/UFT Secondary Charter) was 29th in the 100 m (14.38).
