Alfred State Hosts 5th Annual Track & Field Spectacular

For the 5th consecutive year, the athletic department hosted local Special Olympians at the Alfred State Track & Field Spectacular. Over 250 athletes along with their teachers and aides competed at Pioneer Stadium on May 11th.

Student athletes from Addison, Alfred Almond, Arkport, Avoca, Bath Haverling, Canaseraga, Canisteo Greenwood, Jasper Troupsburg, Hornell, GST Boces, Prattsburgh, and Wayland Cohocton competed in track events (25, 50, 100, 200, 400) and field events (long jump, tennis ball throw, softball throw, shot put). Every participant received a ribbon for their performances.

Pioneer student-athletes, coaches, and volunteers from across the college organized and executed each event bringing smiles, laughs and high fives to the competing athletes.

"We have seen growth in this event every year," said Sports Information Director Paul Welker. "It is one of the most exciting events that we host and we look forward to continuing to our partnership with the local schools and Special Olympics."
