2017 CoSIDA Recognition Week

Athletics Honors Paul Welker

In honor of CoSIDA week, the Athletics Department and Director of Athletics, Jason Doviak, would like to recognize our Sports Information Director, Paul Welker. CoSIDA, The College Sports Information Directors of America, uses the month of November to honor the hard work and dedication of all Sports Information Directors.

As a member of the Alfred State Athletics Department for 17 years, Welker serves as the Sports Information Director/Assistant Athletic Director-External Relations. His duties go far and above the sports information aspect and include game day management, media relations, website maintenance, and record keeping.

Welker has been honored with the William S. Havens Award by the Athletics Department three times and has teamed with the Marketing & Communications staff to win two bronze medals for the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations for Alfred State athletic brochures. He is the co-advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, works closely with the sports management department by overseeing the athletics department field experience class, and athletic department student interns. Welker is very active with Homecoming weekend, the Hall of Fame Ceremony, and the Special Olympics Track & Field Spectacular.

His time and effort dedicated to the Athletics Department and Alfred State College are beyond extraordinary. We would like to take this time to thank him for all of the hard work he puts into our student-athletes, programs, and college. We appreciate the countless, sometimes unrecognized hours you put into representing our department.

Welker has been assisted by softball coach Suzie DeNillo for the last year and receives support from his event staff team and the sport management field experience students.
