Armstrong and Pearce Named Garcia's Top Cut Athletes of the Week
Alfred State freshmen swimmer Payton Armstong (Highland Mills/Monroe-Woodbury) and senior men's basketball player Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) have been named the Garcia's Barbershop Top Cut Athletes of the Week.
Armstrong swam in four races as the Pioneers defeated Penn State Altoona on Saturday. She earned individual victories in the 50 back (34.73), the 50 fly (30.92), and the 100 back (1:11.18). She also teamed with Lauren Earley (Waterford/Shenendehowa), Kaileigh Lehman (Lowville/Beaver River), and Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) to win the 200 medley relay in 2:06.46.
Pearce had a big opening weekend as the men's basketball team went 1-1. He shot 7 for 13 from the field and was 9 for 11 from the foul line as he scored 26 in the 82-76 victory over Cazenovia. In the team's 114-105 double OT contest vs. D'Youville, he led scored 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds. He was 12 for 13 from the line line including three shots in the final seconds to send the game into extra time.
