Team Updates

Men's Basketball: 6-3

The Pioneers were 2-1 this past week as they wrapped up play for 2017. They fell 74-51 to Fredonia but bounced back a pair of victories, 78-49 over SUNY ESF and 71-64 over Penn College.

Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte -Tech Management) led the team with 36 points (12 ppg) while Josh Miller-Labar (Groton/Lansing - Financial Planning) connected on eight 3-pointers and averaged 9.3 points per game. Tahaij Lewis (Rochester/Greece Olympia - Sport Management) averaged 9 points and 5 rebounds this week, Dante Jordan (New York/Law and Public Service - Business Management) averaged 7.7 points and 6.3 rebounds, and Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley - Tech Management) averaged 6.3 points and 7 assists.

The Pioneers shot 40.3% from the field and held a 130 to 123 rebounding advantage.

Women's Basketball: 2-7

The blue & gold fell in their final two contests of 2017. They couldn't get the offense going in a 74-49 loss to Fredonia and they lost a hard fought battle 64-57 to Carlow.

Catherine Bialecki (Alfred Almond - Diagnostic Medical Sonography) continued to impress with a pair of double-doubles. She finished the week with 42 points, 21 rebounds, and seven blocks. Janae Gibson (Bronx/Pelham Prep - Sport Management) added 21 points and 17 rebounds this week while Kelly Kane (Wellsville - Business Administration), Kelsey Shaulis (South Seneca - Diagnostic Medical Sonography), and Michayla Salatel (Geneseo - Financial Planning) all scored 10 points this week.

Wrestling: 2-3

The wrestling team completed the 2017 portion of their season last weekend and returns to action on January 6th at the Waynesburg Invitational.

Swimming: Women 3-1, Men 1-3

The swimming team will dive into 2018 in Coral Springs, FL. They will be in action again on January 6th.

Indoor Track & Field: 

Zach Curran (Williamson - Welding), Joe Richardson (Geneva - Architectural Technology), and Sophie Gonzalez led the Alfred State indoor track and field team as they wrapped up the 2017 portion of their season at the Houghton December Invitational. 

Curran won the pole vault competition with a leap of 4.60 m (15'1"). His leap is the 4th best in NCAA DIII thus far during the 2017-18 season and ties him for 3rd all-time in school history. Richardson was 2nd in the triple jump (12.78 m), 5th in the high jump (1.73 m), and 7th in the long jump (6.24).

Anders Presthus (Lansing - Radiology) was 4th in the weight throw (14.45 m) and 5th in the shot put (13.69 m) while Eric Hulbert (Mexico - IT Network Administration) was 4th in the 5,000 (16:55.86). Caleb Boyce-Wright (Cheektowaga/John Kennedy - Architecture) was 7th in the 800 (2:08.47), Conrad Kroll (Westtown/Minisink Valley - Digital Media & Animation) was 8th in the 1 mile (5:07.99), and Zack Goodwin (Poughkeepsie/FD Roosevelt - Architecture) was 9th in the 60 hurdles (9.14).

The men's 4x400 relay team of Eric Zamor (New City/Ramapo - Digital Media & Animation), Nate Robertson (Hamburg - CAD/CAM & Mechanical Engineering), Alexander Vossler (Havelock, NC - Mechanical Engineering), and Boyce-Wright finished in 6th (3:43.22) while the 4x200 relay team of Goodwin, Marco Marrero (Dychman/City College - Radiologic Technology) and Fidelis Olom, and Mandel Green finished in 11th (1:41.06)

Gonzalez was solid in both the 60 and 200 to lead the women's team. In the 60 she won her preliminary heat in a time of 8.14 which was 3rd fastest in the prelims and 2nd fastest in school history. In the finals she finished 7th with a time of 8.22. In the 200, she finished 3rd overall with a time of 27.22.

The women's 4x400 relay team of Katherine Frascella (Franklinvile - Nursing), Olivia Leonti (Port Byron - Nursing), Cassandra Ryan(Gloversville - Mechanical Engineering & Tech Management), and Cassidy McCourt (Buffalo/Emerson - Sport Management) was 8th in 4:45.95.
