Team Updates

Baseball: 0-4

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday when they begin their southern trip. They open the trip with a DH at Salisbury (MD) on Saturday before spending next week playing every day in Florida.

Lacrosse: 0-2

The lacrosse team could not fully rally as they fell 14-11 at Wells College on Wednesday evening in their only action of the week. A contest vs. Hiram was cancelled due to the weather.

Wells scored the game's first four goals and led by 12-3 before the Pioneers rallied to get back in the game but the Pioneers could not get any closer than three. Joe Johnson (Churchville Chili) led the team with four goals while Teddy Alvarado (Hilton) had two goals and an assist. Branden Dickson (Bath) finished with a goal and two assists while Nathan Crowley (West Irondequoit) was 19 for 26 in the face-off circle and led the team with 13 groundballs.

Softball: 

The softball team opens up the 2018 season on Saturday when they begin play in Myrtle Beach, SC at the Fastpitch Dreams Tournament. The team will play 12 games during their trip.

Indoor Track & Field: Men 9th, Women 28th at ECAC Championships

Zach Curran (Williamson) and Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) each won ECAC individual titles as the Pioneers competed at the Armory in New York City. The Pioneer men finished 9th out of 32 teams that scored while the women's team was 28th.
 
Curran, who entered the competition as the highest seeded performer, won the event with a leap of 4.50 m. He was the only competitor to clear the 4.35 m and the 4.5 m (14'9") heights. Kemsley won the shot put competition with a toss of 15.56 m (51'00.75"). His winning toss was .04 further than the 2nd place finisher and .34 more than 3rd place. Kemsley was also 7th in the weight throw (15.60 m) while teammate Anders Presthus (Lansing) was 8th (15.17 m).
 
In the heptathlon, the Pioneers took 6th, 7th, and 8th. Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 6th with 3,688 points. He scored 637 points in the 1,000 with a time of 3:02.79 and scored 576 points in the pole vault with a leap of 3.85 m. Alex Brown(Wellsville) scored 3,675 points in the competition to earn 7th. He recorded his most points in the 1,000 with a run of 3:00.38 (661 points). Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 8th with 3,597 points. He scored 636 points in the high jump with a leap of 1.81 m. All three are now in the top ten in Alfred State history. Berry is 6th all-time, Brown 7th, and Ruebenstahl is 8th. Berry's performance was 149 points higher than a performance at Brockport earlier in the season.
 
Emily Brigman (Lancaster) accumulated 2,444 points to earn 8th place in the pentathlon. Her total is now the new top standard in the women's record book breaking the previous record of 2,348 set by Jessica Rollins in 2004. Her time in the 60 m hurdles was 10.06 earned her 701 points and is the 2nd fastest time in the event in school history. In the high jump she recorded a leap of 1.40 m to score 512 points and is now 6th all-time. Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 9th in the pentathlon with 2,260 points.
 
Wrestling: 7-8, 2nd at North East Conference Tournament

The wrestling team heads to Allen, TX this week to compete in the NCWA National Championships. Seven Pioneers have qualified for the National Championships and will compete in the three day event that starts on Thursday morning.
