Team Updates

Baseball: 8-12, 3-1 AMCC

The Pioneers had a solid week finishing 5-1 including 3-1 as they opened up AMCC play. The blue & gold swept Wells (3-2 & 11-0) and Pitt Bradford (6-5 & 14-4) before splitting with Pitt Greensburg (L 8-7 & W 5-3).

Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) had a solid week leading the team with a .625 average (10 for 16). He collected three doubles, two homers and 9 RBI on the week. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) was 12 for 22 with seven runs scored and six stolen bases this week while Josh Laurie (LeRoy) was 10 for 122 with 4 RBI. David Zuber (Honeoye) hit .435 with 7 RBI. The blue & gold hit .346 and outscored their opponents 46 to 22 this week.

On the mound, Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work. Danny Doran (Irondequoit) was 1-0 on the mound with two saves in 3.1 innings of relief. Nick Mahoney (Lakewood, OH), Garrett Mack (Avon), and Matt Isham (Maine Endwell) also picked up wins on the hill. As a staff, the Pioneers had a 3.43 ERA this week with 40 strikeouts and 40 hits allowed in 44.2 innings of work.

Lacrosse: 3-4, 2-0 AMCC

The lacrosse team picked up a key AMCC victory as they defeated Hilbert 9-6 in a contest played at St. Francis High School in their only action . The Pioneers have won two straight and 3-4 overall and 2-0 in AMCC play.

The Pioneers played an outstanding all around 1st half. The team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st quarter and led 4-0 at the half. The lead grew to 7-0 before the Hawks started a comeback attempt. The Pioneers led 7-2 after three quarters and held off a 4th quarter rally in which the Hawks outscored the Pioneers 4 to 2.

The Pioneers held a 42 to 39 shot advantage in the contest (Alfred State outshot Hilbert 21 to 11 in the 1st half while the Hawks held a 28 to 21 advantage in the 2nd). Matt Cobb (Churchville) finished the day with 21 saves including 14 in the 2nd half.

Joe Johnson (Churchville) led the way with the hat trick while Cominic Arresta (Southhampton), Branden Dickson (Bath), and AJ Soto (Churchville) all finished with a goal and an assist. Seven different Pioneers scored in the contest. 

Softball: 0-11

The Pioneers had the week off and will get back in action for the first time up North this week with three scheduled doubleheaders.

Track & Field: Opened up season at Geneseo Invitational

The outdoor track & field team opened up the season competing at the Geneseo Early Season Invitational on Saturday. Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) led the way with two top three finishes.

Kemsley was 3rd in the shot put with a toss of 14.41 m and 3rd in the hammer throw with a mark of 47.64 m. His toss in the hammer throw is 2nd in school history.

The men's 4x100 relay team of Joe Moscato (Valley Stream/Kellenberg), Mandel Green (Rochester/Eastridge), Eric Zamor(New York/Ramapo), and Chadwick Ekeigwe (Spring Valley/Ramapo) was 7th in 46.99 while the team of Jhamel Cohen(Brooklyn/South Shore), Kaieel Ward (New York/Thomas Jefferson), Fidelis Olom (Bronx/Health & Science Center), and Joe Richardson (Geneva) was 8th in 47.00.

Isiah Richardson (Geneva) was 6th in the triple jump with a leap of 12.23 m while his brother Joe was 14th in the long jump (6.00 m). Anders Presthus (Lansing) was 10th (13.24 m).

The women's 4x100 relay team of Sophie Gonzalez, Dominique Shirley, Shannon Shirley, and Alexis Carrington(Manhattan/NYC iSchool) finished 6th in 54.33. Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) was 15th in the javelin with a toss of 22.72 m.
