Team Updates
Baseball: 11-21, 6-8 AMCC
The baseball team was 1-3 last week in AMCC action. They split a doubleheader with Hilbert (L 6-5 & W 11-5) but lost a pair vs. Mount Aloysius (L 4-3 & L 16-5).
Jack Henby (Hornell) had a monster week to lead the Pioneer offense. He hit .643 (9 for 14) with two doubles, a triple, a homer and six RBI. He also stole four bases and scored six runs. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalpin-Perth) hit .400 (6 for 15), Josh Laurie (LeRoy) hit .385 (5 for 13), and Dan Woodward (Honeoye) hit .357 (5 for 14). The Pioneers hit .339 for the week.
On the mound, Garrett Mack (Avon) earned the lone victory of the week with seven strong innings of work. He allowed four hits and one run while walking four and striking out six. Jarrod Deaton (Newburgh Free Academy) tossed three innings of two hit relief while Gabe Lewis (Arkport) appeared in three games and pitched 3.2 innings of two hit work.
Lacrosse: 5-8, 3-0 AMCC
The lacrosse team fell 12-2 to SUNY Canton in their lone action of the week.
AJ Soto (Churchville) finished with a goal and an assist while Joe Johnson (Churchville) found the back of the net once. Chris Williams (Watertown/South Jefferson) led the team with eight ground balls.
Softball: 0-21
The Pioneers got back on the field for the time in over a week at Allegheny College and were tripped up in both contests, 17-3, and 2-0.
In the opener, Morgan Franklin (Wellsville) collected a 2-RBI double and scored on an error while Jordan Leonard (Lancaster) was 2 for 2 at the plate and tossed 2.1 innings of two hit relief.
Leonard allowed five hits, two runs, and struck out one in the pitcher's duel in the nightcap.
Track & Field: Men 1st & Women 5th at Alfred Invitational
The track team had a busy weekend as they competed four straight days. The men's team finished 4th at the U of Rochester and won the Alfred State Invitational. The women finished 5th at both meets. In between a pair of Pioneers competed at the Cortland Multi.
Anders Presthus (Lansing) led the way for the Pioneers by winning the shot put (12.92 m). He was also was 2nd in the discus (37.72 m.), 2nd in the hammer throw (44.28 m), and 5th in the javelin (40.37 m). Paul Kemsley (Lancaster) won the discus throw and is now 2nd in the school record book with a toss of 49.79 m. His toss is the 7th best in NCAA DIII this season. On the track, Eric Zamor (New York/Ramapo) was 3rd in the 400 (53.78), Tim Berry (Midlakes) was 4th in the 110 hurdles (18.02), and Andrew Ruebenstahl (Washingtonville) was 6th (19.17).
On the women's side, Hannah Snayczuk (Machias/Pioneer) was 2nd in the shot put (9.87 m) and was 6th in the discus (28.23 m). Keraghen Krzyzanowicz (Dunkirk) was 6th in the shot with a toss of 7.40 m. The 4x100 relay team of Cassidy McCourt (Buffalo/Emerson), Sophie Gonzalez (Bronx/Kings Park), Logan Thierman(Portville), and Alexis Carrington (Manhattan/NYC iSchool) won in 55.18.
At the Cortland Multi Emily Brigman (Lancaster) and Alex Brown (Wellsville) competed. Brigman finished the event with 2,815 points which puts her in 5th on the all-time list while Brown finished in 8th place with 4,743 points in the decathlon.
The Pioneer men won four events on the day and scored 202 total points to earn 1st place honors in their home event. Kemsley won the shot put with a throw of 13.62 m. and the discus with a toss of 47.76 m. Ruebenstahl won the 110 hurdles in 18.51 while the 4x100 relay team of Joe Richardson (Geneva), Jhamel Cohen (Brooklyn/South Shore), Zamor, and Chadwick Ekeigwe (Spring Valley/Ramapo) won in 45.34.
Ruebenstahl was also 2nd in the high jump (1.75 m) and 3rd in the pole vault (4.00 m), Dylan Perlino (Holland) was 2nd in the hammer throw (43.87 m) and 3rd in the discus (39.61 m), and Presthus was 2nd in the discus (39.90 m) and 3rd in the hammer throw (42.60 m) Berry was 2nd in the javelin (41.08 m) and was part of the 4x400 relay team that finished 2nd in 3:37.94. He teamed with Nate Robertson (Hamburg), Zamor, and Ekeigwe in the relay.
On the women's side Holly Fiore (Niagara Falls) won the javelin with a toss of 29.07 m. She was also 4th in the high jump (1.45 m), 5th in the long jump (4.56 m). Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) won the steeplechase in 13:19.96 while Olivia Leonti (Port Byron) was 2nd in 14:13.07. Marissa Sly (N. Tonawanda) was 3rd in the 100 m hurdles (17.99), Dominique Shirley was 4th in the 100 m dash (13.43), Snayczuk was 4th in the shot put (9.46 m) and 5th in the discus (28.46 m), and Julia Yanarella (Wappinger Falls/Roy Ketcham) was 2nd in the javelin (24.68 m) and was 5th in the high jump (1.30 m).
