The football team used a big 2nd half as they defeated Castleton 21-15 on Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans answered right back but after a 68-yard kickoff return by Derek Ecklund (Panama) the Pioneers scored two plays later on a one-yard run by Jake Palmer (Voorheesville) to make it 13-12. Castleton kicked their 3rd field goal of the game to make it 15-13 in the 4th quarter but the Pioneers rallied right back and took the lead for good when Wilson connected with Shy'rel Broadwater (Syracuse/Cicero North Syracuse) on a 32-yard touchdown pass play. The two-point conversion between the same two made it 21-15 with 5:09 remaining.
The Pioneer defense did the rest as they stopped the Spartans on a pair of possessions in the final 5:09 to seal the victory. On the final meaningful play of the game, Brockton Weist (Harpursville) and Robert Augustin (Brooklyn/Midwood) combined on a sack on a 4th and 4 at the Castleton 47.
