The Alfred State cross country team heads to the NCAA Mideast Regionals this weekend.

Cross Country Ready to Compete at NCAA Mideast Championships

The Alfred State cross country team will head to Bethlehem, PA this weekend to compete in the NCAA DIII Mideast Cross Country Championships. The race hosted by Muhlenberg University will be run on the campus of Lehigh University.

Both the men and the women finished 3rd at the AMCC Championships two weeks ago.

  • Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was the top finisher for the men's team at the AMCC Championships. He finished in 10th in 26:56.8. Matt Connolly (Elmira Notre Dame), Cooper Buckley (Wellsville) and Austin Miller (Hornell) will counted on to be point scorers as well for the team.
  • Caitlin Caltagirone (Holland) has been the top finisher for the women's team all season. She finished 6th at the AMCC Championships with a time of 24:16.3. Sarah Rivet (Waterford/Shenendehowa), Katie Watkins (Addison), and Kate Frascella (Franklinville) are expected to score points for the blue & gold. 

This is the second straight year the Pioneers have competed at the Mideast Championships. Last year the women finished 34th while the men finished 36th overall.

Top team and individual finishers will qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships which will be held in Louisville, KY at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. Student-athletes from 51 colleges have entered the race.
