DeWall and Wadsworth Named Athletes of the Week

Jacob DeWall (Waterloo) and Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) have been named the Alfred State Athletes of the Week.

DeWall continued to make an impact for the wrestling team. He was 5-1 with five pins en route to a 3rd place finish in the heavyweight bracket at the RIT Invitational. He pinned Mi-Andre Hughes (RIT) in 31 seconds to start the day. He fell into the consolation bracket after falling the quarterfinals. He started his run to 3rd place with a pin of teammate Nick Barrett in 4:21. He pinned Cameren Smith (Worcester Polytechnic) in 2:58, and Niko Diakides (Worcester Polytechnic) in 57 seconds to earn a rematch with John O'Brien (Trinity) in the 3rd place match. In the rematch, DeWall got the better of O'Brien and pinned him in 1:33 to earn 3rd place. This is the second straight tournament DeWall has placed (he was 6th at the NYS Championships).

At the Edinboro Multi, Wadsworth broke the school record in the heptathlon as he finished 2nd with 4,564 points. He scored 840 points in the 60 m dash (7.12), 817 points in the 1,000 (2:45.13), and 714 points in the high jump (1.90 m). Derek Stein (Horseheads) finished in 6th with 3,402 points. The previous record of 4,441 held by Travis Nagle (2013). It also improves his collegiate best of 4,439 from his freshman campaign. He is now the 2nd ranked multi athlete in NCAA DIII.
