Men's Basketball: 3-5, 2-2 AMCC

Brandon Gosley (Valley Stream South) led the Pioneers with 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench as Alfred State fell 80-55 at Nazareth in their only action of the week. Markel Jenkins (Elmira) finished with nine and Jahmel Demery (Rochester/Eastridge) added eight.

Women's Basketball: 3-5, 1-3 AMCC

The Pioneers split of pair of non-conference games this week. They lost a back and forth battle 74-66 to Utica but bounced back for a 82-72 win at SUNY Delhi on Saturday.

Rayanna Anderson (Wellsville) led the team with 20 points (four 3-pointers) while the duo of Emily Kelley (Andover) and Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) were big under the hoop vs. Utica. Pettit finished with seven points and 15 boards while Kelley had seven points and 13 rebounds. Jade Parsons (Ovid/South Seneca) came off the bench and chipped in eight. The Pioneers bench outscored Utica 20 to 4 in the contest.

Versus Delhi, the game featured nine lead changes and 10 ties, Alfred State led 61-58 heading to the 4th quarter. With the game tied at 67-67 with just over four minutes left the Pioneers went on a 7-0 run and never let the Broncos within six the rest of the way. Kelsey Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) made nine baskets and led the way with 19 points. Pettit had 16 points and nine boards, Kelley had 16 points, and My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) came off the bench and had a career high 11 points. Anderson (Wellsville) scored nine and had eight assists and Skylar Shaulis (Ovid/South Seneca) chipped in nine as well.

Men's Swimming & Diving: 3-1, 1-1 AMCC & Women's Swimming & Diving: 1-3, 1-1 AMCC

The swimming and diving team does not compete again until January when they travel to Miami, FL for their annual training trip.

Men's Track & Field:

The 4x400 relay team of Shawn Rosa (Middletown), Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post), Cameron Chambers (East Rochester), and Jacob Wadsworth (Dansville) won in 3:30.72 to lead the way for the men's team at the Houghton December Classic. Wadsworth also won the 200 m dash in 22.53.

Chambers was 2nd in the 400 (51.66) while Zach Rudewicz-Nepokroeff (Williamsville East) was 2nd in the long jump (6.52 m). Gilbert Boateng (Yonkers/Riverside) was 4th in the 60 (7.28) and 6th in the 200 (24.07), Drew was 4th in the 800 (2:05.58), and Zion Ponder (Rochester/School of the Arts) was 4th in the high jump (1.79 m).  Howard was 5th in the 200 (23.96), Rosa was 5th in the 400 (54.13), and Corey Seymour (Dryden) was 5th in the long jump (6.08 m). Jesse Johnson (Horseheads) was 7th in the high jump (1.74 m) while Derek Stein (Horseheads) was 8th (1.74 m). Colin Stauffer (LeRoy) was 6th in the long jump (5.95 m) and Stein was 8th (5.54 m). 

Women's Track & Field:

The blue & gold had a solid day in the jumping events at the Houghton December Classic. Emma Taggart (New Windsor, MD) won the high jump with a leap of 1.61 m. She was also 4th in the 60 m hurdles (10.40). Lily Schnell (Olean) won the triple jump with a mark of 8.98 m and was 5th in the long jump (4.31 m). Alyssa Delany (Canisteo Greenwood) was 4th in the long jump (4.46 m) and 7th in the 60 hurdles (10.93). On the track, Caitlin Caltagirone (Holland) was 4th in the 1 mile crossing the finish line in 5:53.87.

Wrestling: 3-2

The Pioneers split a pair of dual matches this weekend. They went on the road and defeated Penn State Behrend 31-13 but fell 37-11 to Alvernia to close out the 2019 portion of the season.

Alfred State took control of the match vs. Behrend with four straight victores midway through the match to break open a 12-10 contest. Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen) defeated Alex Barnett 10-5 to start the streak, Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) earned a 10-2 major decision over Josh McCall at 174, and Alijah Carter (Eastport South Manor) pinned Brian Himes in 1:07 at 184. Harry Nice (Dundee) pinned Jutin Chaudhary in 2:17 at 197 to put wrap up the Pioneer points. Brian Hedding (Rush Henrietta) and Paul Knapp (Dundee) got forfeit victories to start the evening. 

The blue & gold lightweights got the team started off fast vs. Alvernia but the Golden Wolves took the final seven matches and the victory. Hedding got the day started with a 11-0 victory over Jonathan Portillo at 125 lbs, Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili) followed at 133 and earned a 10-4 victory over Louis LaRocca, and Owen Kissell (Alden) earned a major decision at 141 with a 11-2 victory over Alexander Gorlin.
