Baseball: 2-1

The baseball team opened the season by taking two of three. They swept Wesley 7-0 and 10-3 but fell to #13 Salisbury.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) had a big weekend at the plate with three extra base hits. He hit a homer in each half of the doubleheader sweep at Wesley and then added a dobule vs. Salisbury. Josh Laurie (LeRoy) led the team with a 4 for 10, 2 RBI week. Jack Henby (Hornell) collected three hits including a three-run homer vs. Salisbury.

On the mound, Andrew Santobuono (Unatego) tossed six shutout innings with eight stikeouts in the game one victory over Wesley. Avallone pitched four effective innings in game two (five hits, one run, three strikeouts) while Jarrod Deaton (Newburgh Free Academy) retired all seven batters he faced to close out the victory.

Men's Basketball: 6-16, 4-13 AMCC

The Pioneers split a pair of games this week. They defeated D'Youville 74-67 but fell 79-62 at Pitt Greensburg.

Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) led the team with 35 points, 12 boards, and eight assists this week while Josh Reding (Spencerport) added 25 points. Jahmel Demery (Rochester/Eastridge) added 19 points and 15 rebounds this week.

Women's Basketball: 7-16, 5-13 AMCC

The blue & gold battled tough but fell in both of their games this week. They lost 65-55 at D'Youville and 81-60 at Pitt Greensburg.

Jordyn Pettit (Wellsville) led the team with 30 points and 14 rebounds while Emily Kelley (Andover) had 25 points and 10 boards. My'ana Davis (Greece Athena) continued her solid play as of late with 25 points and seven assists.

Swimming & Diving: Men - 8-2, 2-1 AMCC, Women 6-5, 3-1 AMCC

The swimming & diving teams head to the Webster Aquatic Center this week to compete at the Allegheny Empire Championships.

Men's Track & Field: 

The track & field team recorded 10 top eight finishes at the RIT Midseason Meet. The Pioneers entered the meet ranked #6 in the latest USTFCCCA MidEast poll.

Cameron Chambers (East Rochester) led the way by winning the 800 in 2:00.47. Chambers was also part of the 2nd place 4x400 relay team. He combined with Ryan Buechel, Cameron Howard (Brockport), and Jacob Drew (Corning Painted Post) crossed the finish line in 3:36.20.

Beuchel finished 3rd in the 400 (52.37), Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was 3rd in the 3000 (9:27.89), and Jesse Johnson (Horseheads) was 4th in the high jump (1.75 m). Zack Rudewicz-Nepokroeff (Williamsville East) was 4th in the 200 (23.66) and 5th in the long jump (6.65 m). Zion Ponder (Rochester/School of the Arts) was 6th in the long jump (6.43 m), Drew was 6th in the 800 (2:04.27), and Corey Seymour (Dryden) was 8th in the 200 (24.38).

Women's Track & Field: 

Emma Taggart (New Windsor, MD) led the way as the women's track & field team competed at the RIT Midseason Meet.

Taggart was one of three Pioneers to earn top 10 finishes on the night. She was 3rd in the 60 hurdles in 9.76. Katie Watkins (Addison) was 7th in the 3,000 (12:38.73) and Lauren Parsell (Pioneer) was 9th in the high jump (9.76 m).

Western Equestrian: 

Three Pioneers recorded top two finishes as the Western Equestrian team competed at the at IHSA Zone 2 Region I Championships held at Alfred University on Sunday.

Jinean Erickson (Holden, MA), Alyssa Beardsley (Letchworth), and Sydnee Ganoung (Allegany Limestone) shined for the blue & gold. Erickson was the high point rider in the beginner competition, Beardsley was the reserve high point rider in both open horsemanship and open reining, and Ganoung was the reserve high point rider in beginner. With their performances, the trio has now qualified for the IHSA Western Semifinals March 21-22 at West Virginia University.

Other top performances included: Paige Skinner (Campbell Savona) was 3rd in Level 1, Ashley Herbert (Spencerport) was 3rd in rookie, Megan Delianne (West Islip) was 5th in beginner, and Jennifer Cirigliano (Patterson/Brewster) was 8th in rookie.

Wrestling: 4-7

The wrestling team wrapped up the dual portion of their season with a 42-16 victory over Jamestown CC on Friday. The Pioneers won five of the seven matches competed this evening.

Zack Kowalewski (Attica) got things started with a forfeit victory at 125. Jesse Pitoni (Churchville Chili), Owen Kissell (Alden), and Anthony Miraglia (Byron Bergen) followed with pins to make it 24-0. Pitoni (133) pinned So Murata in 2:51, Kissell (141) pinned Taige Jones in 56 seconds, and Miraglia (149) pinned Colton Studley in 5:23. After Jamestown picked up a couple of victories, Loujerry Etienne (Brooklyn/New Visions) stopped the Jayhawk momentum with his first career pin at 174. He pinned Jesse Storch in 1:23. Blake Ilges (Canisteo Greenwood) battled Dan Torres, the #1 wrestler at 174 in the NJCAA, but fell to 9-1. The Pioneers wrapped up the victory with a pair of forfeit wins, Harry Nice (Dundee) at 197 and Kyle Fitzgerald (South Lewis) at heavyweight.
