Q & A with Megan - Featuring Mikaela Snayczuk

Alfred State sport management major Megan Gridley recently interviewed freshman Mikaela Snayczuk in her second installment of Q & A with Megan. Snayczuk and the Pioneers are currently competing at the Allegheny Empire Swimming and Diving Championships

In what ways do you feel that being an athlete has made you a better person? Being an athlete has made me a better person because it has helped me to gain better time management skills which has helped me in school a lot, and it has helped me become a better friend and teammate. 
 
How do you cope with getting nervous during a meet? When I start to get nervous, I just stop and take three deep breaths and remember that I have been training for this, and to just believe in myself.
 
What is your favorite song to listen to before a meet? My favorite song to listen to before a game is Hall of Fame by The Script.
 
What qualities do you consider to be good qualities for a captain/leader?
I consider kindness, maturity, a positive attitude, and good sportsmanship to be good qualities.
 
Who inspired you as a young athlete? Michael Phelps and Missy Franklin were a big influence while I was growing up. They helped me want to be a good swimmer.
 
How old were you when you first started playing sports? What was the first sport that you played? I only ever really swam, I started swimming competitively when I was 11 years old.
 
What do you like to do on your free time, besides sports? In my free time I usually watch The Office or hang out with my friends.
 
What is your favorite food? My favorite food is pizza and fruit.
 
What is your favorite color? Blue.
 
What is your favorite TV show? The Office
