Baseball: 6-8, 2-0 AMCC

The baseball team improved their winning streak to five games with three victories last week. They defeated Elmira 10-9 and then swept a Saturday doubleheader at Utica, 7-4 and 14-9.

Leading 2-0, the Pioneers scored eight runs in the 3rd inning to take control of the contest vs. Elmira. They led 10-2 in the 7th and held off the Eagles rally in the 8th and 9th inning. Connor Pingitore (Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth) led the team's 12 hit attack with a 3 for 5, 2 RBI day. Tim Holler (Brewster) was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Ryan Santiago (Staten Island/HS of Telecommunications) was 2 for 4 with a RBI. Nick Serce (Irondequoit) earned the win on the mound with five innings of work. He allowed three hits and two runs while walking six and striking out eight. Christopher Mattoon (Elmira) came out of the pen in the 9th and got the final three outs to register his second save.

In the sweep at Utica, Alfred State collected 21 runs on 24 hits, 12 for extra bases.

Josh Laurie (LeRoy) was 3 for 4 in the opener while Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) was 2 for 4. Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ) hit a solo homer in the 1st inning and had 2 RBI.  AJ Gartland (Irondequoit) threw the first four innings and allowed just one earned run on four hits. He walked five and struck out four. Chris Catoire (Brooklyn/Fort Hamilton) pitched the final three innings and allowed five hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out two.

Holler was 3 for 4 with 4 RBI while Avallone was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Holler and Avallone each hit three-run homers while Laurie hit a solo homer. Connor Hong (Gates Chili) was outstanding out of the bullpen and earned the victory. He threw 5.1 innings of relief allowing three hits and one earned run. He walked three and struck out three.

A scheduled conference doubleheader at Pitt-Greensburg was postponed.

Men's Soccer:

The men's soccer team had their season opener postponed last weekend and their two matches this week will not be played. They will hopefully play at Hilbert next Thursday (4/15) afternoon.

Softball: 2-6, 0-2 AMCC

In their only games of the week, Alfred State fell 6-0 and 11-1 to visiting RIT.

In the opener, Kailey Wonica (Staten Island/Moore Catholic) was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits in the opener finishing 2 for 3. Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN) allowed four earned runs in seven innings of work on the mound.

Sarah Boyce (Cortland) was 3 for 3 with a triple and a run scored in the nightcap while Audrey Farrell (York/Notre Dame) was 2 for 3.

A conference doubleheader vs. Pitt-Greensburg was postponed.

Track & Field:

The track & field team will open the outdoor season on Friday evening at Pioneer Stadium when the host the Alfred State Early Season Invitational.
