Week in Review:

Men's Cross Country: 

The men's cross country team traveled down I-390 to compete in the SUNY Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational. The Pioneers finished 29th in the preview of the NCAA Regional course that featured 404 finishers.

Gavin Bathgate (East Rochester) was the top Pioneer finisher. He crossed the finish line of the 8k course at the Geneseo Warplane Museum in 83rd place in 26:47.6. Brian Clark (Bethpage) was 342nd (31:25.9), Aiden Bonomo (Manalapan, NJ) was 356th (32:25.9), Andrew Hvisdak (Orchard Park/Hamburg) was 366th (33:04.4), and Jeff Jijy (New Hyde Park) was 372nd (33:38.0).

Geneseo, the host team, won the team competition with a score of 32. There were 33 teams that had full teams in the competition.

Women's Cross Country:

Katie Watkins (Addison) led the Alfred State women's cross country team as they competed at the Mike Woods Invitational at SUNY Geneseo. The Pioneers competed versus 29 full teams and 321 total finishers.

Watkins finished the 6k course at the Geneseo Warplane Museum in 28:15.4 to earn 262nd place. Summer Kier (East Rochester) was 285th (29:38.3), Sarah Rivet (Shenendehowa) was 286th (29:38.6), Mattison Buckley (Wellsville) was 299th (31:10.9), and Anna Hersom (Byron Bergen) was 317th (35:32.8).

The hosts, Geneseo, won the team title with a score of 27. Alfred State was 28th overall.

Football: 1-3

The Pioneers had the week off and open up ECFC play this weekend when they host Maritime. Opening kickoff is at Noon.

Men's Soccer: 4-7, 1-2 AMCC

The men's soccer team split a pair of matches this week. They fell 3-0 on the road at SUNY Poly but bounced back for a 2-0 win over Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday. 

Thad Grierson (Perry) made seven saves vs. SUNY Poly. The Pioneers were unable to generate much offense as the Wildcats improved to 7-1.

The Pioneers used a solid team effort in the victory over Greensburg. Jean Baptiste Kagde (Rochester/Early College) was able to quickly take a turnover and put it in the back of the net in the 33rd minute. The game remained 1-0 until the 75th minute when Andres Mateos (Batavia) followed up on deflection by Camren Larabee (Cuba Rushford) to make it 2-0. Jack Leahy (Pittsford Sutherland) started the attack with the cross towards the goal. Grierson made the lead stand as he recorded his second career shutout with eight saves.

Women's Soccer: 4-5, 1-2 AMCC

ASC fell in both of their matches this past week. They lost 7-0 at Geneseo and 4-0 vs. Pitt Greensburg.

Sierra Schofield (Delran, NJ) made six saves in the contest at Geneseo while Giana DiMora (Greece Olympia) made two stops in the final 29 minutes of the game.

Greensburg scored three goals in a span of 15 minutes in the 1st half and added an insurance goal late in the game. Schofield made seven saves in net for the Pioneers.

Volleyball: 9-1, 2-0 AMCC

The Pioneers continued to roll as they defeated Pitt-Greensburg twice on Saturday. They defeated the Bobcats 25-21, 25-11, 25-12 in the AMCC match-up and then defeated them 25-10, 25-15, 25-19 in the second match.

Kiara Perkins (Coudersport, PA) led the Pioneers in the opener with seven kills, 14 digs, and four aces. Nayomie Ferrer (Eastridge) finished with 25 assists, six kills, five digs, and five aces while Karleigh Haines (Jamestown) finished with eight kills. Keturah Gregory (Laurel, MD) added six kills and three blocks and Emma Petrichick (Genesee Valley) finished with seven digs. The Pioneers recorded a .299 hitting percentage in the opening match.

The blue & gold continued to roll in match two and ran their winning streak to five matches. Key to the success in the match were 15 Pioneer service aces. Racquel Gerstenberger (Schoharie) led the way for Alfred State with nine kills and nine digs while Gregory recorded seven kills. Nicolina Sottile (Lindenhurst) passed out 20 assists and Petrichick chipped in nine digs and five service aces.
