Fisher and Wonica Named ASC Athletes of the Week
Alfred State softball players Brittany Fisher (Indianapolis, IN/Southport) and Kailey Wonica (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) have been named the ASC Athletes of the week.
In her first five games Brittany Fisher threw five complete games and picked up two wins. In the Pioneers 9-4 win over Delhi, Fisher faced 29 batters, recorded 85 pitches with 61 strikes, stuck out four and posted a 3.00 ERA. In their 11-10 rally win over Brockport in extra innings, she faced 38 batters, threw 98 pitches, 75 strikes and posted a 5.25 ERA. Against Skidmore, she faced 30 batters, threw 77 pitches and 56 strikes and struck out 2. On their last day, against Western Conn. State Fisher faced 35 batters, threw 135 pitches with 99 strikes, struck out 10 and posted a 5.00 ERA.
In her first 10 games of the season Kailey Wonica recorded a .519 batting average and .667 slugging percentage. Wonica went 14-for-27 with 11 RBIs, 2 doubles and 1 triple and had 18 total bases. She went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI against Skidmore and 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs against Delhi. Against Brockport she went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs. With bases loaded she hit a two-run single up the middle to tie the game and force extra innings. The Pioneers came back and won 11-10. In their 6-5 win over Me.-Presque Isle she went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs including a two-run double and a triple. She went 1-for-3 with 1 run vs Skidmore, 2-for-3 with 1 run vs Western Conn. State and 1-for-2 with 1 RBI vs Oneonta.
