President Dr. Steven Mauro Named to the NCAA DIII Presidents Council

Alfred State College president Dr. Steven Mauro has been named to the NCAA Division III Presidents Council. He is the first AMCC president or chancellor to be selected to serve in this leadership role.

"The AMCC is thrilled to have Dr. Mauro represent our conference on the Presidents Council," said AMCC Commissioner Donna Ledwin. "He is a strong proponent of the Division III philosophy and understands well the value of intercollegiate athletics as part of the overall educational experience at our member campuses.  It is important to have someone with Dr. Mauro's experience and vision at the table at a time of such significant change in the NCAA."

The Presidents Council is the highest governing body in Division III. The Council establishes and directs the general policy of the Division, while also establishing Division III's strategic plan. Presidents Council has the ability to make recommendations to the Board of Governors on matters related to Division III such as championships, and may approve the use of funds allocated to the Division. Additionally, Presidents Council may sponsor legislation independent of the Division III Management Council.

"I am really proud of all of our student athletes, coaches, staff, and all those who support the mission and vision of Division III athletics," stated Mauro. "It is an honor to be nominated and elected to the NCAA Division III President's Council. I look forward to serving in this capacity and being an ambassador for the program."

Dr. Mauro currently serves as the Vice Chair of the AMCC Presidents Council and as the conference's representative to the NCAA Division III Presidents Advisory Group.  He will advance to the role of conference chair in 2023-24.
