Softball Rebounds With Big Win after Late Game Loss

ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hilbert College softball team returned to action this afternoon with a non-conference double header at Alfred State.

The Hawks closed the day with a big 16-2 victory after they dropped the opening game to the Pioneers who came from behind to claim the 4-3 victory.

GAME 1
Hilbert held a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 7th.  The hosts hit a single and then followed with an RBI triple to knot the game at 3-3.  Alfred State then grounded-out with an RBI for the win.

Rachel Allen's number has been called in each of the last three games and she helped post another complete game moving to 1-4 on the season.  Allen gave up seven hits, two walks and struck out five.

Brittany Cooley went 2-for-3 and combined with Gabriella Bongiorno and Morgan Grosch for the four hits and three RBIs.  Both Bongiorno and Grosch poked their teammates home off doubles.

GAME 2

Hilbert opened the night cap with three quick runs right out of the gate.  With bases loaded, Morgan Grosch hit a 3 RBI single.  The Pioneers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half before the Hawks started running the bases the rest of the game.

Hilbert scored at least one run in each the next four innings while holding the host scoreless forcing a 5-inning victory.

The Hawks collected eight runs in the third inning behind four hits, three Alfred State errors and two stolen bases.

Hilbert finished the game with 11 hits, eight RBIs and 13 base-on-balls.

Rebecca Bailey went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored four runs.  Brittany Cooley and Jenna Castricone each went 2-for-3 and Morgan Grosch posted a team-high 3 RBI off one hit.

Victoria Dzaak picked-up her second win while giving up four hits and two runs.  She struck out three from the circle and earned a 2 RBI single in the busy 8-run third inning.

Up next, the Royal and White are scheduled to host Penn State Behrend April 12.
