Senior Day Preview: @LaRocheWBB vs. Alfred St.

McCANDLESS, Pa. - La Roche women's basketball plays their final regular season Saturday, February 21st at the Kerr against Alfred State. The sole senior, Jenna Cole, will be recognized in a pre-game ceremony. Tip-off for tomorrow's game is set for 3:00 p.m.

La Roche (OVR: 17-6, AMCC: 17-2)

Last Time Out: The Redhawks defeated Pitt Greensburg on the road last Wednesday in the AMCC Game of the Week, 70-67 to earn their second straight conference regular season title. Ayanna Mazyck scored 16 of her season-high 22 points in the first half. Dasja Anderson posted 11 points and eight rebounds while shooting an efficient 5 of 8 (63%) from the field. Jenna Cole added 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and a steal. The Redhawks knocked down 11 of 27 (37.9%) three pointers, their second most made threes in a game this season.

News and Notes

  • Head Coach Kamela Gissendanner has won the regular season conference title in each of her seven seasons at La Roche (2013-2017, 2019-2020­). Gissendanner is an impeccable 117-10 (.921) in regular season conference play in her tenure at La Roche. She is also just one win away from her 150th career win.
  • Senior F Jenna Cole leads the Redhawks, and ranks sixth in the league, with 14.6 points per game, while also pulling in 6.3 rebounds per game. Cole has drained 65 of 71 (91.5%) of her free throw attempts, the second highest percentage in among all D-III women's basketball players.
  • Junior G Ayanna Mazyck has scored at least 12 points in each of her last nine games. In AMCC action, Mazyck is averaging 14.5 PPG (8th in AMCC), 1.9 3-PT/G (6th in AMCC) and 2.3 SPG (4th in AMCC).
  • Junior G Shaundrea Butler has dished out four or more assists in 15 straight contests. Butler ranks 2nd in the league and 26th in D-III with 5.1 assists per game.
  • Dasja Anderson has been dominant on the glass recently, averaging 9.7 rebounds over her last eight games.
  • An impressive three Redhawks rank top ten in the conference in field goal percentage (Anderson: 52.2% | 3rd, Cole: 49.6%| 6th, Mazyck: 49.6% | 7th)
  • The Redhawks have won 12 straight regular season conference games at home dating back to last season.
  • Against the conference, LRU has averaged 74.3 points per game (2nd in AMCC).
  • The Redhawks offense has been efficient in AMCC action as well, shooting 45.1% from the field (1st in AMCC) and 34.0% from beyond the arc (1st in AMCC).

News and Notes

  • Currently holding the eighth spot in the conference standings, Alfred State has been eliminated from playoff contention and will play their final game of the season on Saturday.
  • The Pioneers are 0-11 against AMCC playoff teams this season.
  • The teams best player is 6-0 Sophomore forward Jordyn Pettit. She leads the Pioneers with 15.2 points per game (4th in AMCC) and 10.8 rebounds per game (1st in AMCC).
  • Rayanna Anderson and Kelsey Shaulis each average 11.2 and 11.4 points per game respectively. 

Series History

  • The 2019-20 season is Alfred State's first as members of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference. The Pioneers were previously members of the American Collegiate Athletic Association prior to joining the AMCC.
  • La Roche defeated the Pioneers at Alfred State earlier this season, 83-65. A whopping five Redhawks finished in double-digit scoring figures in the contest led by Sophomore guard Danajah Sanders who tied her season-high with 15 points.
