Rivera Sets Digs Record During Volleyball Team’s Pair of Home Victories

The Wells College women's volleyball team took a pair of non-conference wins on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The Express swept Keystone College 3-0 in the morning matchup and then began its matinee match against Alfred State by dropping the first set. The Express took the next three and the match 3-1 against the visiting Pioneers to finish with a pair of wins on the day.

The two wins on Saturday allowed the Express to finish the regular season strong with six wins from its last seven contests.

In the latter match, Gabby Rivera set a single-season mark for digs. Her totals for this season are now beyond 500 and counting.

In the opening match against Keystone, Wells took set wins of 25-22, 25-21 and 25-17. Jackie Allen led the attack with 16 kills, while Lorissa Parks added 21 assists. Allen also had a team-high 11 digs, while Maritza Scharoun recorded four blocks.

Against Alfred, the Express lost a close first set by 25-22 but came storming back in the next three sets with wins of nine points or more. Wells won the second set by 16 points and the final two sets by nine points each. Jazzmyne Williams led the attack with 19 kills and Stoops earned 27 assists. Rivera recorded 18 digs, while Scharoun and Makenzie Drown each had three blocks.
