Duffy Earned Nine Points in Non-Conference Win

BUFFALO, N.Y. – Freshman James Duffy's seven goals and two assists led the Hilbert College men's lacrosse team in a 21-8 non-conference victory over visiting Alfred State College under the lights at Dobson Field tonight.

Another freshman, Patrick Crangle, added four goals and five assists helping the Hawks move back to .500 at 4-4 overall.

Alfred State was led by Arron Buck's three goals (4 points) as the Pioneers fell to 3-9 overall.

The Hawks built a 5-1 lead just 10 minutes into the first period.  Five different players found the back of the net with senior Jacob Zook scoring his first collegiate goal at 3:58 to lift Hilbert to a 6-2 lead.

Alfred State then went on a 4-0 run starting at the end of the first quarter and extending into the second period to knot the score at 6-6 with 13:14 left.

Duffy put his mark on the game stretching the Hawks lead back with three straight goals before David DeCocq's single marker broke-up a pair of Crangle goals as Hilbert built a 12-6 lead midway through the second.

Each team traded scores twice before intermission with Hilbert leading 14-8 by the break.

The scoring punch slowed in the second half as the Hawks held the Pioneers in check while Hilbert struck seven more times before the officials blew the final whistle as the clock struck zero.

Hilbert posted double-digit shots each quarter outshooting Alfred State 52-34.

Andrew Tirabassi, Joshua Schindler, DeCocq and Crangle posted a single goal as Duffy closed with a fourth quarter hat-trick.

Brenden Deady earned his fourth win of the season through the first 30-minutes of the game when he made seven saves.  Adam Zawadzki closed the final half with three saves.

Justin DeLaRosa went 14-for-21 in the face-off circle as Connor Harman scooped nine ground balls and caused three turnovers.   Crangle, Aaron Valino and Chase Harmon were each credited with five ground balls.

Schindler and DeCocq finished with three goals each as Tirabassi, Trevor Kuhnlein, Austin Laine and Zook netted once.

The Hawks return to NEAC action this Friday, April 15 when they welcome Bryn Athyn College to Hamburg for the first time.
