Redhawks Win Second Straight Against Alfred St.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The women's soccer team improved to .500 on the season after defeating Alfred St. at the Baierl Sports Complex, 2-1. Today's win is the second straight for La Roche and their second in conference play. The Redhawks also improved to 3-1 at home, where they have outscored their opponents 7-4.

Final: La Roche: 2, Alfred St: 1

Records: La Roche (5-5, AMCC: 2-2), Alfred St. (1-6-1, AMCC: 1-3)

Synopsis:

The Pioneers struck first in the 32nd minute of today's matchup when Mac Donagan crossed the ball from the bottom right side of the penalty area to the top of the goal box where her teammate Alyssa Delaney buried the ball into the lower right corner of the net. La Roche headed into half-time down 1-0.

The Redhawks tied it up in the 72nd minute of the match when Freshman forward Heaven Butler ripped a shot into the back of the net off a beautifully placed corner kick from Freshman midfielder Kaylyn Cannon. The assist on Butler's goal is Cannon's 3rd this season (two more than the next Redhawk).

Eight minutes later, La Roche scored the game winning goal when Sophomore forward Piper Claypool played a great ball from just across mid-field through Pioneer defenders to Freshman forward Ashley Mineard who snuck it past the goalie and into the lower left corner of the goal.

La Roche defenders limited the Pioneers chances this afternoon, holding Alfred St. to only two shots on goal in 90 minutes of play.
