Fisher Walks Off With Two Wins

Fisher College won both games of a Saturday doubleheader in walk-off fashion. The Falcons won 3-2 in the opener and 9-8 in the nightcap to improve to 16-10 on the year.

The Pioneers got on the board in the 1st inning when Cullen Franz (Cazenovia) scored on a fielding error. Thomas Shofi (Carmel) made it 2-0 in the 3rd when he singled to right to score Lucas Cornell (Alfred Almond) who had doubled with one out.

The Falcons tied the game with single runs in the 4th and 5th inning. Mitchell Ludholm collected a RBI single in the 4th and Reynaldo Moreta tied it with a RBI grounder that was misplayed by the Pioneers.

The game remained tied until the 7th. The Pioneers put two runners on base in the top half of the inning but could not score. In the bottom of the inning, Moreta delivered a one-out double to plate the game-winning run.

Sass pitched well in defeat. He allowed five hits and two earned runs in 6.1 innings of work. He walked four and struck out six. No Pioneer had multiple hits in the contest.

Kyle Anulao was the lone Falcon with multiple hits finished 2 for 4. Bryan DeJesus went the distance allowing five hits and one earned run to earn the victory.

The nightcap featured 26 walks and 24 strikeouts in a three-hour affair. The Falcons jumped out to the early lead in the nightcap with a single run on a fielding error in the 1st and a sac fly by Moreta in the 3rd.

The Pioneers got on the board in the 4th when Marco Marrero (Dychman/City College HS) scored on a passed ball. In the 5th, Shofi tied the game with a solo homer and then took the lead when Marrero and Andy Pichardo (Queens/Academy of American Studies) scored on passed balls. Jesse Swan (Campbell Savona) added to the lead in the 6th with a RBI single.

Moretta cut the Pioneers lead to 5-3 when he drew a bases loaded walk in the 6th but the Pioneers bounced right back in the 7th with three more runs. Shofi drove in two with a RBI single and Cornell made it 8-3 when he drew a bases loaded walk.

In the bottom half of the 7th, the Falcons rallied sending seven batters to the plate. Haydell Alicea delivered a two-RBI sinlge, Kyle Anulao drew a bases loaded walk, and Sam Schroeder ended the game with a walk-off bases clearing double.

Shofi was the only Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 5 with 3 RBI. Pichardo drew three of the Pioneers walks in the game. Garrett Mack (Avon) did not factor in the decision after pitching 5.2 innings. He allowed five hits and two earned runs while walking four and striking out six.

Haydell Alicea was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI and Cody Mercier was 2 for 3 for the Falcons.

The Pioneers and Falcons continue their four-game weekend series on Sunday with a Noon doubleheader.
