Baseball Team Wraps up Season

The Alfred State baseball team wrapped up the 2018 season with a night contest at Falcon Park in Auburn vs. Ithaca. The Bombers scored four runs in 4th and four more in the 7th as the earned a 12-1 victory.

Webb Little hit a sac fly in the 1st to give Ithaca the early lead. In the 3rd, the Pioneers tied it up when Jack Henby (Hornell) scored on a wild pitch. Ithaca took back the lead in the bottom of the inning on a RBI single to center by Garrett Callaghan. They pushed their lead to five runs, 6-1 in the 4th with four more runs. Little keyed the rally with a 2-RBI double.

The game remained 6-1 until the 7th when the Bombers collected four more runs. Matt Carey keyed the rally with a two-run double. Ithaca added a pair of unearned insurance runs to cap the scoring.

The blue & gold was held to just five singles by the Ithaca pitching staff. The Bombers also turned five double plays in the contest.

Carey was the lone player on either team with multiple hits finishing 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. The Bombers collected 10 total hits and drew nine walks. Tyler Hill allowed just three hits and struck out eight in seven innings of work to earn the victory.

The Pioneers finish the 2018 season with a 12-27 record. The twelve victories in an improvement of two wins from the 2017 season.
