Baseball Predicted to Finish 5th in AMCC

The Alfred State baseball team has been predicted to finish 5th in the AMCC Preseason Coaches Poll. The Pioneers finished the regular season in 5th last season and advanced to the AMCC Tournament for the first time.

Alfred State, led by 4th year head coach Mike Armstrong, was 20-21 last year and 11-7 in AMCC play. They will count on senior catcher Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) and junior infielder Josh Laurie (LeRoy) to lead the team. Johnson hit .398 last year with nine doubles, five triples, and four homers while Laurie hit .316 with five doubles, four triples, and three long balls.

Seven-time AMCC champion La Roche is predicted to finish on top of the AMCC followed by Penn State Altoona, Penn State Behrend, Mount Aloysius, and Alfred State. Pitt Greensburg, Pitt-Bradford, Hilbert, Medaille, Franciscan (fielding a team for the first time since 2011) and D'Youville.

Penn State Behrend sophomore Joshua Wagner was named the AMCC Preaseason Player of the Year while Behrend sophomore pitcher Thomas Zbezinski was named the AMCC Preseason Pitcher of the Year.

The 2020 campaign is scheduled to begin this weekend when the team travel to Wesley on Saturday (Noon DH) and Salisbury on Sunday (Noon single game).
