Dickerson Collects Four RBI in Doubleheader

The Alfred State baseball team collected ten hits in both games of a split doubleheader but were unable to pick up a victory on Sunday. The Pioneers fell 12-8 to Brockport in the opener and 16-6 to Ferrum.

The Golden Eagles scored three in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and one more in the 4th to grab a 5-0 lead. In the 4th, the Pioneers collected four runs to cut the lead to one. Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) started a rally in the 4th with a RBI single. Josh Laurie (LeRoy) hit a RBI single to right, Samuel Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) hit a RBI double to right center, and Ryan Santiago (Staten Island/HS of Telecommunications) capped the rally with a RBI infield single. 

The Eagles pushed their lead out to six runs with two in the 5th, one in the 6th, and two more in the 7th. Dickerson collected another RBI hit, a single to left, to highlight a three run rally but the blue & gold wouuld not get any closer. Brockport scored two unearned runs in the 8th to make it 12-7. Santiago capped the scoring with his second RBI single in the 9th.

Dickerson led the team with a 3 for 5, 2 RBI day. Santiago was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI and Johnson was 2 for 5 with a RBI. The Pioneers were slowed down by six fielding errors and eight walks.

Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridton Academy) got the Pioneers on the board two batters into the contest vs. Ferrum with a RBI single to left that scored Jack Henby (Hornell). Henby had doubled to lead off the game. The Panthers took the lead for good with three runs in the 2nd and two more in the 3rd. Johnson cut the lead to 5-3 when he connected on a homer to left in the 4th but the Pioneers wouldn't get any closer.

Ferrum scored single runs in the 4th and 5th, three in the 6th, one in the 7th, and five in the 8th. Dickerson collected a RBI single in the 6th and 8th and Henby had a RBI single in the 7th.

Johnson and Dickerson were each 2 for 4 with 2 RBI while Henby was 2 for 4 with a RBI.

 
 
 
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Pioneers are slated to head to Allegheny College next weekend for a three games. They take on the hosts at 1 p.m. on Saturday and then are slated to play the Gators and Ithaca College on Sunday.
