Pioneers Strand Chances in Loss to Mary Washington

The Alfred State baseball team collected ten hits but left 10 runners on base in a 6-2 loss to Mary Washington on Sunday. The game was the first of five for the Pioneers at Lexington County Stadium in the Spartan Southern Classic.

The Eagles got on the board in the 1st with a pair of runs and the game remained 2-0 until the 5th when Josh Laurie (LeRoy) hit a two-out RBI double down the right field line. Mary Washington built their lead to three, 5-1, with three more runs in the 5th. Samuel Dickerson (Cutchogue/Mattituck) hit a RBI single to right in the 6th but another run was thrown out at the plate. In the bottom half of the inning UMW added an insurance run.

Brody Burdett (Scottsdale, AZ) and Colin Johnson (Alfred Almond) were each 2 for 4 on the day while Laurie was 2 for 5 with a RBI.

The Pioneers continue their stay in Lexington, SC on Monday when they take on Case Western Reserve at 3 p.m.
