Alfred State Clinches Top Seed; Dickerson Homers; White Throws Shutout

The Alfred State Baseball Team won 1 out of the 2 games in today's double header against Penn St. Behrend. Game 1 finished with a 10-3 loss from the Pioneers, but in game 2, the Blue & Gold came out on top 5-0. The Pioneers have officially clinched the one seed and earned the crown of AMCC regular season champions. The conference championship tournament will take place at Pioneer Field on May 11, 12 and 13.

Game 1 

The Pioneers went scoreless in the first inning, with a runcoming in the second inning with an Elijah Barinas basehit to drive in Nick Serce. They went scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when a Sam Dickerson knock drove in Bryson Rigsby. The last run that was scored for the Pioneers came in the bottom of the seventh inning with a hit by Dickerson, earning him his 2nd RBI of the game. 

Gavin Moore tallied 2 hits in game 1, and Cullen Haley pitched 2 innings of scoreless relief. 

Game 2 

The score was tied at 0 until Devin Mersmann hit a single into right field that scored Owen Lansing. In the bottom of the fourth, the Pioneers scored another run by another single to right field, this time by Jack Curabba. In the fifth inning the Pioneers exploded scoring three runs. Sam Dickerson hit a monsterous 3-run bomb to break the game open 5-0. The homer proved to be the last runs of the game. At the plate, the Pioneers finished the game with 10 total hits. Dickerson's clutch homerun was more than enough to electrify the Pioneer dugout and drive them to a shutout victory.

 Jon White hurled another complete game shut-out, his second of the season, and led the Pioneers to a victory, earning them the regular-season crown. White tallied 9 k's and threw an outstanding 100 out of 126 pitches for strikes. White stranded 9 Lions on the bases throughout the game, continuously shutting down Lion threats.

The Pioneers are in Rochester, NY against the University of Rochester at 7:00 pm tomorrow, April 26th
