Avallone & Gartland Spotlighted by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper
Matteo Avallone (Mahopac/Bridgton Academy) and AJ Gartland (Irondequoit) have both been named Players to Watch in the annual Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA DIII preview. Both Alfred State players made the most of the COVID shortened 2020 season.
AMCC Announces Changes to Spring 2021 Semester
The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference is planning for the spring semester while monitoring developments across the country and within our regional footprint with regard to the COVID-19 virus pandemic. We continue to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes as well as our campus communities in our decision making.
Q & A with Megan: Featuring AJ Gartland
Alfred State sport management major Megan Gridley recently interviewed left handed pitcher AJ Gartland. This summer Gartland was named the Pitcher of the Year in the ICBL. He was 5-0 with a 0.20 ERA in 35 innings of work. He struck out 48 batters and held opponents to a .110 batting average. He ended the summer on a 15-inning scoreless streak and a 30 inning streak without allowing an earned run.
Fall Athletic Update
The Presidents' Council of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) recently met and postponed conference competition during the Fall 2020 semester. Alfred State is working to provide opportunities including practices and limited competitions for Pioneer student-athletes this fall.
Gartland and LoTemple Named ICBL Players of the Week
A pair of Alfred State baseball teammates, AJ Gartland and Justin LoTemple, earned Player of the Weeek honors following solid performances in the Interstate Collegiate Baseball League.
Frascella and Gartland Nominated for AMCC FAR Award
Katherine Frascella (Franklinville) and AJ Gartland (Irondequoit) were recently recognized as the the Alfred State nominations for the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) Award. The pair of Pioneers were part of 21 student-athletes nominated and were named to the AMCC All-Academic Team.
Baseball Team Wins Pioneer Excellence Cup
For the second time, the Alfred State baseball team has won the Pioneer Excellence Cup. The Pioneer Excellence Cup was established in 2016 and honors the team that has combined success in athletic achievements, academic excellence, and in civic engagement.
Stevens and Deaton Honored with Pioneer Legacy Award
Senior swimmer and diver Sarah Stevens (Wellsville) and senior baseball player Jarrod Deaton (Newburgh Free Academy) have been named the 2019-20 Alfred State Pioneer Legacy recipients. This award is given to the male and female athletes who have achieved success on and off the field throughout their career at Alfred State. The nominees have demonstrated Sportsmanship and Leadership, been involved in Civic Engagement activities, along with earning athletic honors during their career.
