Western Equestrian Finishes as Reserve Hi-Point Team at Regionals

The Alfred State western equestrian team had a solid showing as they finished as the Reserve Hi-Point team at the 2019 IHSA Zone 2 Region 1 Championships held at Alfred University.

The trio of Brianna Lasecki (Newark, NY), Alyssa Beardsley (Letchworth), and Rachel von Hagn (Bath) qualified for the IHSA Westeren Semi-Final Championships at the University of Findlay (March 16-17). Lasecki earned the hi-point rider honors in the beginner competition, Beardsley was the reserve hi-point rider in the open horsemanship competition, and von Hagn was the reserve hi-point rider in the advanced horsemanship category.

Other top performances included: Jennifer Cirigliano (Patterson/Brewster) was 3rd in beginner horsemanship, Meaghan Castoro (Syosset) was 6th, Kathleen Crandon (Webster/Webster Thomas) was 7th in the intermediate horsemanship field, and Jessica Bongard (Webster/Webster Thomas) was 7th in novice horsemanship.

Beardsley and von Hagn are making their second straight trip to the IHSA Western Semi-Final Competition.

Top finishers at the semi-final will advance to the National Championships. The 2019 IHSA National Championships will be May 2-5 at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY.
