Brown, Lauretti, and Clark Honored by the ECFC
Alfred State football players Kiegan Brown (Cortland), John Lauretti (Seaford), and Devon Clark (Perrysburg/Gowanda) have earned postseason honors from the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC). Brown was selected as the Rookie of the Year, Lauretti was named All-ECFC 1st team, and Clark was a 2nd team selection.
Brown burst into the spotlight of the Pioneer offense in the Pioneers fifth game of the year when he rushed for 118 yards and a score vs. Dean. He followed that with two more 100-yard games including a 235 yard and three touchdown day vs. Anna Maria. He finished the year with 680 yards and eight touchdowns on 151 carries. 625 of those yards and all eight scores all came in ECFC action. He was named both the ECAC Rookie of the Week and Offensive Player of the Week once during the season.
Lauretti had a very impressive junior campaign from his defensive line position. He led the team with 87 tackles and eight sacks. He recorded at least eight tackles in six of the Pioneers 10 games. He had a season high 16 tackles vs. Castleton and had 13 tackles (11 solo) in the contest vs. Rochester. He recorded a season best three sacks vs. Mount Ida and had 2.5 sacks vs. Castleton. For his efforts he was named ECFC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season.
Clark, a sophomore center, started in all ten games this season for the blue & gold. He graded high consistently and was the anchor of the offensive line. Clark was counted on to handle all the calls on the line.
Brown, Jalen Long (Rochester/Bishop Kearney), Gavin McCumskey (Middlesex/Marcus Whitman), Sam Van Valkenburg (Sherman), and Dashown Wilson (Bronx/DeWitt Clinton) were all members named ECFC honorable mention.
- Long, a sophmore wide receiver, led the receivers with 344 yards (18.1 yards per catch and 38.2 yards per game) and five touchdowns.
- McCumskey, a freshmen tight end, caught 11 passes for 74 yards and a score on the season. He is credited with his blocking.
- Van Valekenburg, a sophomore, started every game at left tackle this season.
- Wilson converted from quarterback to the defensive backfield. He finished the year with 27 tackles (24 solo) and a team high three interceptions. He returned an interception for a score in the victory over Mount Ida.
