Scott Linn is entering his 5th season as head football coach for the Pioneers in 2023. Since taking the reins in 2018, Linn has overseen a complete transformation of the football program, including winning a share of the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference title in 2021, and earning a post-season berth to the New England Bowl. In Linn’s four seasons as head coach, he has quadrupled the team’s number of wins compared to the four seasons prior to his arrival.

The 2022 season saw the Pioneers have a league-leading 18 players named all-conference by the ECFC. During Linn’s time in charge, the Pioneers have had 52 players receive all-conference recognition. Running back Jake Palmer was also rewarded for his 1,000+ yard rushing season with All-Region recognition by D3football.com. Alfred State opened and closed the season with victories, finishing 5-5 and 3-3 in ECFC play.

2021 was a banner year for the Pioneers, as they accomplished an array of NCAA-era firsts for the program. The Pioneers finished the regular season with a 6-4 record, marking the first winning season in the NCAA-era. They posted a 5-1 record in ECFC play, finishing in a tie for 1st place, and earning a trip to the post-season to compete in the New England Bowl. For their successes, 16 players were honored by the ECFC as all-conference, and Aaron Jenkins was named the ECFC Offensive Player of the Year.

The 2020-21 season was limited to practices and intra-squad scrimmages due to COVID.

In 2019, Linn led the Pioneers to a 4-6 overall record and a 2-3 mark in ECFC play. The four victories were the most by a Pioneer team since 2013. 12 members of the team were honored by the ECFC and freshman Rylie Van Fleet led the country in pass breakups per game.

Linn arrived at Alfred State with a wealth of experience, having coached 13 years at the collegiate level. In total, Alfred University would set 19 new offensive school records during Linn’s time running the offense.

Prior to working on the Alfred University coaching staff, Linn spent from 2009-2014 on the coaching staff at Hartwick College. During his time there, he held numerous roles, including assistant head coach (2012-14), special teams coordinator (2012-2014), recruiting coordinator (2012-2014), defensive backs coach (2012-2014), strength and conditioning coordinator (2011-2014), academic coordinator (2011-2014), linebackers coach (2011-2012), and defensive line coach (2009-2011).

Linn started his coaching career at Albion College (Albion, MI) as a tight ends and fullbacks coach for his alma mater in 2006. The following year, he moved on to Alfred University, to be a graduate assistant. Linn spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons mentoring the Alfred University running backs.

On the playing field, Linn was a fullback on a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletics Association conference champion team at Albion College. At Albion, he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education. While at Alfred University, he earned a master's degree in education.
