Pioneers Can't Rally All the Way Back

The Alfred State men's basketball team could not completely overcome a 1st half deficit and fell 70-61 at Albany Pharmacy on Friday afternoon. 

Albany Pharmacy led 38-24 in the 1st half and led 54-38 with just over ten minutes remaining before the Pioneers started on the comeback trail. The blue & gold cut the lead to 60-55 with 2:25 remaining but would never get any closer as the Panthers finished the game on a 10 to 6 run.

Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) was the only Pioneers in double figures finishing with 11 points. Marcus Rhett (Middletown) and Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public) both added nine points. Alfred State shot just 34.7% from the field and was plagued by 24 turnovers. The blue & gold did hold a 59 to 31 advantage on the boards with Jordan finishing with 18 rebounds (11 defensive).

Naythan Beltran led Albany Pharmacy (7-4) with 22 points while Kyle Matousek added 15 points. Kyle Fairclough came off the bench and added 10 points. The Panthers shot 40% from the field and hit 9 of their 24 three-point attempts.

The Pioneers (9-5) conclude their seven game road trip on Monday with a 3 p.m. contest at Pratt. The Pioneers are 4-2 on the trip and 3-2 during the 2018 portion.
