Pioneers Shoot Past Cannoneers

The Alfred State men's basketball team 62.7% from the field as they downed Pratt Institute 92-43. The victory improves the Pioneers to 10-5 on the year.

The Pioneers led throughout the game. With a 18-12 lead with just under 14 minutes left in the 1st half, the blue & gold went on a 27 to 9 run to hold a 45-21 lead at the break. The outscored the Cannoneers 47 to 22 in the 2nd half as they cruised to the victory.

Josh Miller-LaBar (Groton/Lansing) connected on three 3-pointers and led Alfred State with 15 points. Dante Jordan (New York/Law & Public Service) was 7 for 8 from the field and finished with 14 points. Alexshay Pearce (Rochester/Charlotte) finished with 9 points, Tyler Elliott (Perry) had eight, and Owen Spencer (Perry) and Ben Deming (Waterloo) added seven each. Juwan Toliver (Buffalo/McKinley) had a solid all around day finishing with 6 points, seven rebounds, seven steals, and five assists. All 14 Pioneers dressed scored in the contest.

The blue & gold were 42 for 67 from the field and 7 for 18 from three. The Pioneers only went to the foul line four times as the Cannoneers were whistled for just three fouls in the contest. Alfred State held a 49 to 16 advantage on the boards. 61 of the Pioneers 92 points came off the bench.

Andrew Yaglenski and Tytus Millikan both scored 15 points for Pratt who shot just 14 for 48 from the field for the game. Eight of their 14 baskets were from beyond the three-point line. The Cannoneers were also slowed down by 24 turnovers.

With the victory the Pioneers set a new NCAA era record for victories in a season with 10. The 2016-17 previously held the record with nine. Alfred State still has 10 games remaining in the regular season.

The blue & gold return home for the first time since December 7th on Wednesday when they host Maine Presque Isle at 7 p.m.
