Ryan Gentile (Spencerport) scored 22 points but Alfred State fell 75-59 at Penn State Behrend in the AMCC opener for both teams.
The Lions led 39-26 at the half as they used a 11-4 run midway through to grab the advantage. Behrend expanded the lead to as many as 19 early in the 2nd half but the Pioneers battled back and cut the lead to nine, 65-59 with 2:28 remaining but couldn't get any closer.
Gentile was 4 for 5 from three and 6 for 6 from the line as he finished with 22 to lead the Pioneers (1-3, 0-1 AMCC). Markel Jenkins (Elmira) recorded his second straight double-double with 11 points and 10 boards.
Kenny Fukon connected on four three-pointers to lead Behrend with 20 points. Mitchell King came off the bench and chipped in 12 and Derrick Clark had 10.
